The Deputy Public Affairs Manager of SSNIT, Ms Jemimah Ofori, has revealed that the highest-paid pensioner on the SSNIT payroll currently receives GHS 201,000 a month.

According to Ms Jemimah Ofori, the Highest-paid pensioner on the SSNIT payroll contributes from multiple sources of income.

She further highlighted that under the old SSNIT laws, there was no cap to which somebody could contribute to SSNIT, but with the new law, there is a cap.

Speaking on Kasapa FM, the Deputy Public Affairs Manager for SSNIT stated, “On our payroll currently, our highest pensioner receives Ghc 201,000 a month, with a few peswas on the SSNIT pension payroll.

I was saying that when you are contributing to SSNIT via EIB, and you have personal business, it helps you. Some people even contribute to multiple sources of income, which is legal according to the law. The highest paid pensioner contributes from multiple sources of income”.

She added, “This current high-paid pensioner is paying through multiple sources. And there is no doubt as to transparency and fairness, as the old law, which was the PNDC law 247, there was no cap to which somebody could contribute to SSNIT; it was open, and such a person was under the old law.

But under the new law, there is a cap, even with the highest pensioner taking 28,000 plus under the new law”.

Some netizens reacting to the staggering revelation stated, “My dad served in the army for many years. Now he’s 84 and receives and pension salary of 106 cedis a month”.

“How much was that person earning before retiring?”, a netizen quizzed.

“My granny worked as a nurse for Korlebu for almost 40 years!!! Her pension no dey reach 1,500gh.. na me dey go withdraw the money give am. Forget these clowns”, another X user added.

One more netizen added, “Bias, if you can’t break down what the highest paid pensioner contributed to amass such an amount, the Ghanaian system served the interest of the few who beat the system. If you are not willing to beat this system, you remain poor for life, shitty system making the ordinary people poorer”.

“The higher your salary, the higher the percentage of deductible contributions to SSNIT. Somebody’s monthly SSNIT contribution (8000gh) is 3 times higher than the average salary in this country, which is 3200gh. Wow”, one more X user added,
