Presidential Staffer, Bridget Otoo, has quizzed the Ghanaian state-owned daily newspaper, Daily Graphic how they could misquote the Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang so badly.
The Daily Graphic, in a public apology on November 19, 2025, on X, apologised to the vice president and Ghanaians for misquoting the vice president during the Ghana cedi @ 60 event.
In their apology post, Dalily Graphic wrote, “APOLOGY. In the story we published on November 3, 2025, and also published a poster today, titled: “Trust in Cedi crucial for economic stability – Veep,” we inadvertently misquoted the Vice President, Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang”.
They further added that the correct quote stated, “…we have weathered domestic and global storms, notably the structural adjustment of the eighties, the 2008 global financial crisis, the domestic debt exchange, and the most recent economic crises. We have learnt painful lessons from fiscal indiscipline, over-borrowing, and ignoring tried principles.”
The state-owned newspaper further apologises for the inconvenience and embarrassment.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience and embarrassment it might have caused the Office of the Vice President”, the post concluded.
In a sharp reply, Presidential Staffer Bridget Otoo called out the Daily Graphic, alleging that someone at Graphic is against the NDC government with an agenda of misrepresentation, misquotation and sometimes lies.
She wrote, “How do you misquote the VEEP so badly? I am convinced there’s someone at Daily Graphic who is against this government and that person or persons have been on an agenda to misrepresent, misquote and sometimes lie outright about very verifiable events”.
Bridget Otoo added, “This is supposed to be the nation’s ‘authoritative’ media. Whoever it is should know that their party lost for doing this same nonsense, this government isn’t vindictive, else they wouldn’t be in post! It is not too late for them to repent or else!!!!!”
Some netizens reacting to Bridget Otoo’s comments stated, “Don’t pretend this is the first time you have noticed this. You guys from the media space know exactly what and who is doing this. You have sat unconcerned as though this is Asaase or Wontumi media. This is a Graphic for crying out loud. Decisive action is needed now, not warnings”.
“Some firing has to go on there o. Because this can’t be an error, no koraaaaa it’s deliberate. A video o yet you still misquoted the person. Like how ei anaaaaa their reporters no abon? Ei me I don’t understand o . Whoever is in charge has to bow in shame!”, another netizen added.
An X user added, “Still, the NDC is tolerating such characters at Graphic. Whoever is the Editor of their social media handles must be asked to proceed on indefinite leave. Is this too much to ask”.
“There are some mistakes that can be explained away to the discerning mind. But this one and how often such incidents occur smack of mischief. The supervisory agency should work on this, it’s getting out of hand”, one more netizen added.
Additionally, one more netizen added, “There are some people over there who are pushing a negative agenda against the government. I have said it several times. This is the time to get to the bottom of the issue. It is deliberate”.
