Matthew Nyindam, the member of parliament for Kpandai, has revealed he is broke after spending all his resources to win the Kpandai seat.
The Kpandai MP stressed that winning an election in Ghana is not a small battle.
According to Matthew Nyindam, after spending all his resources, he has not had peace to function fully as a legislator following his seat being dragged in court.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News on January 28, 2026, after the Supreme Court quashed the Tamale High Court order for a rerun of his election, Matthew Nyindam explained, “In fact, I cannot put a price on it. I am broke because winning an election in Ghana is not a small battle. I won this election with every resource I had. I have never had peace. They dragged me to court, and today the Supreme Court has saved me.”
“It took only God and the help of people to sustain the constituency during that time,” he said.
“Matthew cannot fight the forces of government. You saw the whole government machinery in Kpandai, campaigning and moving from place to place,” he added.
The Kpandai MP further added, “I was actually shocked by the decision by the High Court in Tamale, and it changed everything about me”.
“I’ve seen the other side of Ghana, which is the judicial side,” he said.
Matthew Nyindam also revealed that he had never been to court, saying, “Honestly, I’ve never been to court. I’m 50 years old now, and I’ve never been to court. It’s the first time, and I think that is an experience no one wants to go through.”
“I always say that I don’t wish any MP to go through the kind of experience,” he noted.
“I won the elections. There’s no dirt,” he said. “I can tell you I’ve never cheated deliberately in life before.”
He further reflected on his political journey saying, “Since 1992, it’s been in the hands of the NDC for 20 years until I came,” he said. “I advertised myself, availed myself to the people, and they elected me against all the odds.”
“The sitting MP had been in Parliament for 20 years, and he was a minister,” he said. “I was just a classroom teacher, to be honest with you, but the people chose me ahead of him.”
“I feel that my God has spoken,” he said.
His revelations follow the Supreme Court, in a 4-1 majority decision, which quashed the Tamale High Court judgment that annulled the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam’s victory.
The Apex court decision effectively restores the NPP Matthew Nyindam as the parliamentary candidate for Kpandai.
Justice Gabriel Scott Pawmang was the Judge who presided as President of the Bench, dissenting.
The Supreme Court panel that determined the matter was made up of Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Amadu-Omoro Tanko, Yonny Kulendi, Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, and Henry Kwoffie.
Matthew Nyindam applied for certiorari, which was granted by the Sumpreme court challenged the High Court’s authority to nullify his election.
The full reasons for the Supreme Court ruling are expected to be released on 6 February 2026.
It will be recalled that Lawyers for New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam, argued that the Tamale High Court acted without jurisdiction.
They argued that the Kpandai parliamentary election was gazetted on December 24, 2024.
However, Lawyers for Mr Nsala Wakpal have strongly opposed the application.
They maintained that the High Court acted within its constitutional mandate.
Also, the Electoral Commission has acknowledged the existence of multiple Gazette notifications and detailed that the different Gazette numbers reflected different batches of constituencies.
