Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, a former Education Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has praised the John Mahama-led NDC government for Ghana’s steady economic management.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, January 17, Dr Adutwum stated that he is happy that the Mahama government is doing something good for Ghana.
He highlighted that he likes inflation being at 5 per cent, which brings stability and a stable cedi.
Dr Adutwum on Newsfile stated, “Like any Ghanaian, I am happy that the government is doing something good for our nation, bringing stability,” he said on the show when host, Sampson Lardy Anyenini, asked what he makes of the current situation of the economy.
“When I move beyond that, I begin to look at the future of Ghana, and where we can go, then we will have a different discussion. But of course, the government comes in and is able to do certain things; it is not about politics, it is about doing the reality and saying I like 5% inflation, it is a good thing. It brings stability. I like the fact that the cedi is stable, it is a good thing,” he said.
“So we are in a good place, stability, but we have to look beyond that stability to say if there is no oxygen on the patient, what will happen? When I take off the oxygen, if I take off the ten billion intervention, what will happen?.”
Also, Ernest Owusu Bempah, the Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has praised President John Dramani Mahama for making the NDC more attractive in his second term.
According to Ernest Owusu Bempah, he will give President Mahama 100 per cent for appointing those who worked tirelessly for him to become president again.
He explained that the opposition New Patriotic Party must be concerned about how John Mahama is managing the affairs of the country.
Ernest Owusu Bempah further asserted that President Mahama is indirectly making the NDC attractive to the youths, and the NPP must be concerned.
Speaking on Atinka TV, Ernest Owusu Bempah explained, “He has done very well, and so I will give him 100 per cent, especially for appointing people who worked tirelessly to campaign for him during the election. This shows that he was grateful for their efforts”.
“From what he is doing now, if you belong to a political party such as the NPP, you have to be worried because, indirectly, he is making his party attractive to the youth.
“And if we do not restructure ourselves as a political party, we will suffer because the new youth and the current crop of individuals venturing into politics are thinking differently,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said Ghanaians are angry because the NDC government promised a reset, yet they are witnessing a reverse as cost of living continues to rise under the Mahama administration.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the forum assessing the government’s first year in office, dubbed the People’s Forum, Miracles Aboagye stressed that if this is reset, the NDC promised, then the people of Ghana are in trouble.
According to him, the NDC promised a reset, yet Ghanaians are seeing a reverse, leading to the people being upset.
Miracles Aboagye further highlighted that electricity tariffs going up by 28% makes a nonsense of inflation coming down.
