Reverend Fr. Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe, a Roman Catholic priest, has shared his candid opinion on human desire and temptation.
According to Rev Fr. Codjoe, he is not a tree, nor do ladies look like trees when he sees them, noting that even Catholic priests are struggling with human desire and temptation but are trying their best by the grace of God.
He highlighted that holiness begins with honest self-reflection and deliberate change.
Speaking to his parishioners when delivering his homily, Reverend Fr. Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe detailed, “Someone will say, ‘Father Codjoe, when you see ladies, do you have feelings?’ Sit there and say whatever you want. I am not a tree, neither do [ladies] look like trees,” he said, drawing laughter from the congregation.
“We are all struggling. We are all trying our best by the grace of God that we shall be pleasing to [God]. Be there, you think it is easy? They are all included. So, let us change,” he stated.
He further highlighted that in this Lenten season, parishioners should commit to practical acts of goodness and self-discipline.
Rev Fr. Codjoe, “This Lent, tell yourself, it is possible, it is not NPP is possible. Anger, lust, and worldly pleasures have consumed you… that national service person in your office, hey, let that child go. For once, be good”.
“Let that guy, let that lady say that ‘Oh, there was a good man in my office. He helped me. There was a good lady in my office, she helped me.’”
“Let us try this. Go beyond the law because Christ tells us, even if you watch, you fantasise, you have committed sin, if your right eye cuts it out, that does not mean that next week, that is what abstinence means, sometimes some argued lent is not always about abstaining from food, food is part. The human senses are also used by the devil for sin”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the viral video stated, “They are specifically trained and have taken the vow of celibacy. They are not the same as any ordinary man”.
“Father Teresa Codjoe. That’s my man, he says it’s the way it’s supposed to be said, no sugarcoating”, one X user added.
One more X user added, “Unfortunately, the rest of the homily (preaching) that was important isn’t headline but only the beginning”.
