Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has told NPP delegates he is bringing a new policy that will help Christians visit Israel to pray when he becomes president.
According to Dr Bawumia, Ghana needs prayers, and he has faith in God and believes that when Ghanaians pray, God listens.
Speaking to some NPP delegates on his campaign runs, Dr Bawumia stated, “Our country needs prayers, and I have faith in God. I believe when we pray, God listens to our prayers. That is why Muslims always want to visit Mecca for Hajj.
I am bringing another policy, as Muslims go to Mecca to pray, we want to help Christians and Pastors who want to visit Israel to pray for Ghana”.
Some netizens, reacting to Dr Bawumia’s remarks, stated, “Bawumia is actually more of a loose cannon than Kennedy Agyapong. The difference is that Kennedy is difficult to control, while Bawumia is easier to manage.
Left on his own, Bawumia is all over the place and could easily cause more damage. His biggest “strength” to his supporters, like Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Wontumi, is not leadership, but controllability. They know that if he wins, they can influence him and get whatever they want through him. They’ve not factored in that should it all go left – we are all f@&ked!!!!!”.
Another X user added, “Listen to these desperate political promises. Bawuliar will say anything for votes. Very soon, he will promise that every Ghanaian will get free milk from their taps, and give all single mothers free husbands”.
“I am deeply disappointed by the content of this campaign message. What is the underlying reason for the conduct of our leaders? So much heartbreaking!!”, one more X user added.
One more Ghanaian added, “Saa! Wei na wo kasa yɛ se wonyɛ! Woo se huge apartment wɔ Osu Photo Club for yourself but ɔmanfuo no deɛ prayers na ɔmo hia! Mo deɛ monkɔ so nni politicians akyi!”
Additionally, another X user added, “Christianity shouldn’t be used for politics. No Christian needs to visit Israel before his prayers can be answered. When it comes to religious masters, Ghana is even better because we don’t entertain LGBTQ Pride March on our streets.
If I become the president, I will scrap the government support for the Muslims. Religion is a personal decision, and government shouldn’t meddle in the affairs of religion. Government is just supposed to make sure there is freedom of choice of religion, and that’s it.
If the government wants to still support, then they should support traditionalists and other minor groups as well”.
“So this person is what Miracles Aboagye and co are preaching to us, that he’s a visionary leader and goes on to tell us that his policies are what the NDC is using to govern this country. This is what his people see him us liar”, another netizen added.
