The Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has alleged that President John Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama, only buys a jet when his brother is in power.

According to Jerry Ahmed, the minority demands full disclosure on whether the private jet used by President John Mahama belongs to him or his brother.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Jerry Ahmed stated, “People are dying, now you come and tell us you have bought a private jet, the president travels in a private jet to South Korea, it’s the jet for him or his brother. We even need that full disclosure,

His brother only buys jets when the President is in power. We need full disclosure on all of these things”.

However, Special Aide to Ibrahim Mahama, the CEO of Engineers & Planners Ltd & Dzata Cement Ltd,  Rafik Mahama, has revealed that his boss’s new private jet was purchased in early 2024.

According to Rafik Mahama, the brand new Bombardier Global 6500 was purchased in early 2024 and underwent extensive manufacturing processes before its final delivery yesterday, February 3, 2026.

In a post shared by CDR Africa, they stated, “According to Rafik Mahama, Special Aide to Dr Ibrahim Mahama, the brand new Bombardier Global 6500 was purchased in early 2024 and underwent extensive manufacturing processes before its final delivery in February 2026”.

His remarks put to bed propaganda being ignited by the opposition NPP following news of President John Mahama’s brother acquiring a new private jet.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary to the President, John Dramani Mahama, Dr Callistus Mahama, has announced that Ghana will receive additional aircraft for the presidential fleet by November 2026.

According to Dr Callistus Mahama, one of the aircraft will be dedicated to the President’s travel.

He revealed that once Ghana’s aircraft are delivered, President Mahama will no longer use the private jet belonging to his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, for official travel.

In an opinion piece, Dr Callistus Mahama stated, “Many of the state institutions the President inherited—including key operational capacities within the security services—require rebuilding, re-equipping, and careful reform. The Ghana Armed Forces, which play an important role in state aviation, are part of that ongoing process of renewal.

Plans are already underway to strengthen Ghana’s presidential air transport capability as part of the broader retooling of the Armed Forces. By November this year, the country is expected to have additional aircraft within the presidential fleet, including one dedicated to the President’s travel.

When that happens, Ghana will once again have the capacity to rely fully on its own state assets for the safe and efficient transportation of the Head of State. It will also remove the need for the kind of temporary arrangements that have generated the current discussion”.
