Hawa Koomson, a former member of parliament of Awutu Senya East, has said some opponents are trying to provoke her.
In a viral video spotted Hawa Koomson was spotted at the scene of a tense confrontation between some men and election officers.
However, Hawa Koomson stayed composed during the incident.
Reports suggest the tension was due to some delegates’ names missing from the NPP’s voters’ register.
Speaking to the media after casting her vote, following the tense confrontation, Hawa Koomson stated, “I am going to make sure there is peace in this centre; you have seen the noise they have started to make.
It was as if I was not there, that is the other side of Hawa Koomson, if they do anything, I will not respond, but if I respond, the election centre can’t contain us”.
In related news, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has declared that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared to provide security ahead of the NPP primaries.
According to the IGP, the NPP had formally written to the police informing them that security for the elections would be handled by the Ghana Police Service alone.
Speaking at a peace pact signing ceremony involving NPP presidential aspirants, the IGP stated, “Some few weeks ago, the NPP party wrote to the police to inform us that the security for the forthcoming presidential elections will be solely handled by the Ghana Police Service”.
“We want to assure you that we have been able to identify all the areas where the elections will take place. We have 276 plus one polling centres. We have been able to make our operational plans”.
“We have met all our regional commanders who are responsible for these areas where these elections will take place. We have gone over all the preparations over and over and are ready to go to the field,” the IGP noted.
He added, “We assure you that at least 70 is the least number of police that will be at each polling station. We have deployed heavily. All senior officers countrywide are going to be at the police station”.
“We have the inner deployment, the middle deployment, and then the outer deployment. The outer deployment is heavily loaded,” he explained.
“I want to assure you that we have done a lot of training and preparation and that my regional commanders have called me and said that they are even ready for the election today,” Mr Yohuno added.
