Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has cautioned the party delegates that his opponents have resorted to insults and lies in an attempt to influence them.
According to Dr Bawumia, his opponents, two weeks to the election, knowing their campaign is failing, are now engaging in If you miss the ball, don’t miss the man.
He urged the party delegates to ignore the lies being spread against him and vote massively for him.
Dr Bawumia noted that there is a deliberate campaign of insults and misinformation against him two weeks to the NPP primaries.
He further stressed that his team have picked up intelligence that his opponents are preparing to launch personal attacks and spread falsehoods in the last weeks of the election.
Speaking to NPP delegates at Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, January 20, Dr Bawumia stated, “A few days ago, we received intelligence that, with two weeks left to the primary, they are planning a strategy to insult me and spread lies about me. So be alert and wary. You will hear a lot of lies about me. They want to change your minds. Don’t mind them. Go and vote for me.
This is not an insulting competition, but because they know their campaign is failing. That is why they are saying, ‘If you miss the ball, don’t miss the man.’ They want to insult me, but I won’t mind them. I am focused on victory.”
His comments follow, Ken Agyapong an New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, who has launched a scathing attack on him over a comment made by Chairman Wontumi.
According to Ken Agyapong, Bawumia is a big liar, and no Ghanaian trust him.
In a viral video shared on Facebook, Ken Agyapong fired a shot at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, calling him a liar over a comment he alleged was made by the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP.
Ken Agyapong’s outburst stems from comments made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
According to Wontumi, Professor Adu Boahen was not retained by delegates in 1996 after contesting the 1992 election due to poor health.
Chairman Wontumi made these claims while speaking to NPP delegates in the Ashanti Region.
He noted that the claim is in a book authored by Apenten Appiah-Menka, who was an associate of Professor Adu Boahen.
Kennedy Agyapong, reacting to the statement, fired a personal attack at Dr Bawumia, calling him a liar.
Mr Agyapong stated, “I have never seen a liar like our former flagbearer before. This man is a liar for saying that Adu Boahen did not contest because he was sick, you should not vote for a liar, a man who is lying to have power”.
“Listen to the history, Adu Boahen contested in 1992, and he won but lost the general election in 1996. The former flagbearer is in Kumasi, saying Adu Boahen was sick. Kufuor contested Adu Boahen, and he beat him to become the flagbeaerr, he was fighting to go on oppose, and they did not agree.
Someone who wants to lead this country, and you are lying and distorting history, don’t vote for someone like this. He has been given a nickname that he is a liar. He is a liar, and the people will not vote for him”.
He added, “When I heard him yesterday, a presidential candidate who wants people to vote for him will look eyeball and eyeball and lie, he is a big liar for saying Adu Boahen was sick, go and check history, I am more popular in this country than him, those who know him know him as a liar that is why we lost”.
Ken Agyapong added that the NPP lost in all of the Northern region, but Bawumia is claiming he got the highest votes, adding that Akufo-Addo had 20 parliamentary seats, but today the NPP has 10.
Ken Agyapong added, “ Ghanaians know Bawumia is a liar. When he got to the Ashanti Region, he was so desperate, and had just been lying, it will not help us, we want to win power, and if we want to win power as the muslims they will tell you. The Muslims say they won’t vote for him after he went to Adom Kyei, and the Christians say it all the time they won’t vote for him.
Do you want to lose power when Christian and Muslims are saying bring Ken Agyapong, be bold and vote for Ken Agyapong for truth to prevail in Ghanaian politics”, he added.
