A leading member of the newly rebranded United Party (UP), Hopeson Adorye, has sent a direct message to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to Hopeson Adorye, if Ken Ofori-Atta is afraid to sleep in Nsawam, then he should bring all the money.
He highlighted that Ken Ofori-Atta led Ghana into debt as a finance minister.
Speaking to the media during the Arise Ghana protest, Hopeson Adorye stated, “Trumps aminstration the way they are serious about illegal migrant; if they decide not to deport him, then there is something somewhere”.
“We are all here, who have gone to Ken Ofori-Atta’s house, that we want to kill him; nobody is going to kill him. If you’re afraid to sleep in Nsawam, then bring all the money; this country is in debt because of Ken Ofori-Atta. Look at the Eurobond, and you were using the Data Bank to take a commission. Ken Ofori-Atta is not superhuman to anyperson, he caused the prosecution of Ato Forson ”.
He made these remarks during the Arise Ghana protest on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 when they stormed the United States Embassy in Accra, demanding the return of former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The Arise Ghana protesters gathered outside the embassy premises, clad in red and black attire, called on U.S. authorities to cooperate with Ghanaian institutions to ensure the return of embattled Ken Ofori-Atta.
The group were with placards bearing inscriptions such as “Let Ofori-Atta Face Justice,” “Ken’s Leadership Killed Ghanaians”, “Ken Is Needed in Ghana, ‘Bring Ken Home”, and “No Hiding Place for Corruption.”
Bernard Monah an PNC member, speaking to the media, stated, “We all know that as of now, Ken Ofori-Atta is no longer sick. He went to the U.S. to seek medical attention, and now he has healed himself and overstayed his visa. When he was flagged to be arrested, he went ahead to apply to be a permanent citizen of America.”
“This means that he has no plan to return to Ghana. He is avoiding coming back to face justice.”
“So today is the beginning. We will stay here from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and we will come back tomorrow as well.
“We agreed with the police to protest for two weeks. After the two weeks, we have decided to do a sleepover here until the U.S. finds the need to bring Ken Ofori-Atta,” he said.
Also, Victor Emmanuel Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, has revealed a phone call he received from Ken Ofori-Atta’s cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.
According to Ghana’s Ambassador to the US, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko told him the former finance minister wants to return to Ghana but fears how he would be treated.
Speaking on TV3’s The KeyPoints on January 17, Ghana’s Ambassador to the US stated, “Gabby called me and said Ken wants to come, but he is afraid of how he will be treated”.
” So I told him I wanted to meet Ken and give him the assurance that he will be taken through the legal process, because the Attorney-General, Dr Ayine, gave me that assurance,” Ambassador Smith said.
