Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a stern warning ahead of the party’s internal elections scheduled for January 31.
The NPP General Secretary warned that anyone trying to cause chaos will be arrested by the IGP and his men.
According to the NPP General Secretary, the party is committed to ensuring that the internal elections are conducted in a free, fair and secure environment nationwide.
He further appealed to the presidential aspirants to conduct themselves with restraint and uphold party unity before, during and after the contest.
Speaking at the signing of a peace pact by NPP presidential aspirants, Justin Kodua stated, “I want to use this medium to send a strong caution to any person in our party or outside our party who has any intention of discrediting or trying to mar the beauty of our democracy come January 31.
Be careful, because on that day the IGP and his men will apprehend anybody who tries to cause chaos,” Mr Kodua warned on Thursday, January 22.
“This contest is not a war. It is only to show whether you have the support of the party or not. When you win, you still need the support of your brothers to carry on and win the election in 2028,” he said.
Also, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has declared that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared to provide security ahead of the NPP primaries.
The IGP stated, “Some few weeks ago, the NPP party wrote to the police to inform us that the security for the forthcoming presidential elections will be solely handled by the Ghana Police Service”.
“We want to assure you that we have been able to identify all the areas where the elections will take place. We have 276 plus one polling centres. We have been able to make our operational plans”.
“We have met all our regional commanders who are responsible for these areas where these elections will take place. We have gone over all the preparations over and over and are ready to go to the field,” the IGP noted.
He added, “We assure you that at least 70 is the least number of police that will be at each polling station. We have deployed heavily. All senior officers countrywide are going to be at the police station”.
“We have the inner deployment, the middle deployment, and then the outer deployment. The outer deployment is heavily loaded,” he explained.
“I want to assure you that we have done a lot of training and preparation and that my regional commanders have called me and said that they are even ready for the election today,” Mr Yohuno added.
