NewsIGP deploys special team to investigate death of young Senegalese goalkeeper

Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police, has deployed a special team to investigate the death of a young Senegalese goalkeeper in Kumasi.

A police statement signed by the Chief Superintendent of Police, Director, Public Affairs, Grace Ansah-Akrofi read, “The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno has deployed a special team made up of homicide investigators, forensic experts and intelligence officers to support the Ashanti Region Police Command with ongoing investigations into the death of a Senegalese National, Cheith Toure at Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region”.

It added, “Investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death has so far revealed that on 16th October, 2025, One Issah who claimed to be the deceased’s brother, took the deceased to the Manhyia hospital with several abdominal injuries, alleging that the victim had been involved in an accident and later deposited the body at the Ebenezer mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi, after he was pronounced dead on arrival by the hospital authorities.

We would like to assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to unravel the case and any perpetrators brought to justice”.

The young Senegalese goalkeeper, Cheikh Touré, was heartbreakingly killed in Ghana.

According to reports, Cheikh Touré was found dead in Ghana, with the Senegal Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs confirming the news.

Authorities have revealed that the young, talented Senegalese goalkeeper was deceived by fraudsters pretending to be football scouts.

Cheikh Touré was conned by the alleged fraudster acting as a football scout.

Reports suggest the alleged scouts told him that he had been invited to Ghana for a professional trial with a top club.

Upon his arrival, the scammers kidnapped the young goalkeeper and demanded a ransom from his family.

Despite the family of the young man’s desperate attempts to meet the ransom demands, Cheikh’s relatives were unable to pay.

Tragically, the kidnappers ultimately took his life.

Social media users have been left in shock following the heartbreaking death of young Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have reacted to the tragic news, with the majority of X users pointing fingers towards Nigerians, saying, “A Thorough investigation must be done on this tragic incident, Nigerians might be behind it because it’s their trademark”.

“I promise, if the authorities dig deep into this incident, we’ll find that the culprits aren’t even Ghanaians, they’re just hiding here and causing all this. Smh”, a netizen wrote.

One more X user wrote, “This is where the IP address comes in. They should let the police track their numbers”.

“I don’t think it was Ghanaians behind the scam. This won’t pass the square-headed people who have flooded our country. Heartless MFs”, a netizen stated.

Another wrote, “Those of you saying it’s the Nigerians, there was a time crimes like this were rare in Nigeria till the 2010s, when global terrorism and economic decline influenced everything. We denied it at first, too. The world is changing fast; Ghana’s security needs to wake up”.

“NAA THIS UNGHANAIAN. EVERY REASONABLE NIGERIAN WILL CONFIRM THAT IT’S THEIR COUNTRY MEN BEHIND THIS, NOT GHANAIANS”, an X user noted.

I’m hoping the CID department apprehends the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Moreover, I won’t be surprised if we later find out it’s those anago people who did this.

One more netizen added, “Is this not the modus operandi of Nigerian scammers and fraudsters? Since when did kidnapping and abduction become a thing in Ghana?”

Additionally, a Ghanaian on X stated, “Ohh… we trust the Police to bring the perpetrators to book, we all know a hungry Ghanaian will never kidnap his brother for food not to talk of taking his life. This is sad”
