“I’m not leaving the party; they should leave” – Prof Frimpong-Boateng hits back at ‘fake’ NPP

News“I’m not leaving the party; they should leave” - Prof Frimpong-Boateng hits back at ‘fake’ NPP

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, has hit back at the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Prof Frimpong-Boateng, he is not leaving the NPP, adding that the  fake members in the NPP must rather leave the NPP for the true party to stand.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekoosisen on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng stated, “No, I’m not leaving the party. They should leave the party because they are the fake ones; they should go away, and the true party will stand, he remarked.

“I will not honour any invitation from the NEC to waste my time,” he stated,

He further added, “I don’t even know the General Secretary. I have never engaged him. I am waiting for official communication from the party. This whole thing is funny”.

“This is a party we have struggled for. They should quit and let the real party take over. I don’t care what they do. They are destroying the party,” he said, pointing to the party’s 2024 electoral defeat as signal of failed leadership.

“Look at how we lost the election, abuse of power, corruption, arrogance, and they have destroyed the party…but now claiming that they have sacked me, to hell with them.”

His comments follow Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a statement, who has announced that the party has initiated a move to sack Prof Frimpong Boateng.

On Monday, January 12, 2026 Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, speaking on Channel One TV, described the present New Patriotic Party (NPP) as fake.

According to Prof Frimpong Boateng, he does not consider himself a member of the current NPP as it no longer reflects the values of the NPP of old.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, January 12, Prof Frimpong was questioned if he still sees himself as a member of the NPP. He stated, “The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know.”

“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” he said.

He further expressed deep concern about the NPP’s internal processes, citing the party’s last presidential primaries were he asserted that people were intimidated with delegates being bribe just to elect a flagbearer.

Prof Frimpong Boateng added, “Look at how they elected their last flagbearer — twisting weak people’s hands, bribing delegates, intimidating others to get a flagbearer. This is the beginning of corruption, and this should not be allowed in any serious institution or any serious party”.

“We lost the elections badly, and we did not deal with the issues that led to the losses, and we still want to go in there. I think that it will be a trainwreck if we elect the old flagbearer,” he stressed.

In a sharp response today, the NPP, in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, described his claims as baseless and unsubstantiated allegations.

The NPP statement reads, “The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken due notice of comments made by Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, 12th January 2026, in which he described the party as a “fake party” and further stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the NPP.

In the same interview, Professor Frimpong Boateng made additional disparaging remarks about the Party and alleged, among other things, that the Party’s 2023 Presidential Primary was rigged in favour of His Excelleney Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.

The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong Boateng’s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary. The said primary has been widely acknowledged by all candidates who participated, as well as by well-meaning members of the Party, as having been conducted in a free. fair, transparent, and credible manner, faithfully reflecting the will of Party delegates

The New Patriotic Party views the conduct and utterances of Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng as highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party. Consequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process”.
