“It can only be God” –  Napo on his political success

News“It can only be God” -  Napo on his political success

Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh also known as Napo, the former running mate of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election, has attributed his political success to God.

According to Napo, it can only be God, as in every step he takes, he seeks God first.

Napo, in a social media post on X on August 24, 2025, shared an extract of an interview he had on JoyNews’ Personality Profile.

He wrote, “Every step I make, I seek God first. So, if you look at my political journey, it’s nothing but pure goodness and mercy”, he said.

“It can only be God”, he remarked.

Napo, in his post, further wrote, If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, let Matthew Opoku Prempeh” now say.

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul; then the swollen waters would have gone over our soul.”

Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

Psalms 124:1-8 NKJV”.

In addition, Napo, in a similar video, reminded politicians not to think of the political space as everything is a game.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Personality Profile,  Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh stated, “You live by what you don’t want to be done to you; don’t do it to a fellow human being. You might think that because we are in a political space, everything is a game. If I destroy Napo, I’m very, very happy. But hey, it’s not like that.

What goes around comes around. You might have destroyed Napo with the power of your microphone today, but definitely, you will be destroyed when you least expect it,” he stated.

In addition, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, in that same interview, also stated he was brought up to sit at the table with decision makers.

According to him, he was brought up to cherish one thing, public service, and not only public service, but bringing value through public service.

Napo further revealed, “I would say that is how I was brought up. I was brought up in a very politically aware family with a history of decades of partisan politics or active political life.”

“I was brought up to cherish one thing, public service, and not only public service, but bringing value through public service and for public service, meaning you just don’t participate. You participate in terms of regular impact.”

“That is how I was brought up, brought up to prove myself that I can sit at the table with decision makers, and not only the elderly, but a true decision maker.”

He added, “So brought up by grand uncles and uncles far older than myself, whose children were far older than me, and I served all of them, so that’s how I was brought up.”

“So me growing up, having public service has been a duty that has been imprinted in my heart, mind, and everything I do, so even deciding to belong to which associations growing up were all the associations that brought public service to the fore.”

Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh also narrated his early years joining the Boy Scouts and the Red Cross Society.

The former education minister narrated, “Like joining Boy Scouts at a very early age, be an altar boy. Not only that, joining the Red Cross Society, going to do medicine and public service.”

“The only difference is that some public service duties are very, very small, personal, but really impactful, and some are large and maybe impactful.”

“So being a doctor, you are serving one person at a time, and it could be very, very impactful for somebody who needs surgery, who is dying in agony, and you go in and you repair a strangled hernia or a rotten appendix or something, and you relieve his frustration. He sleeps well, and it brings a lot of joy to your heart and everything”, he stated.

Meanwhile, in a related Napo news, he has refuted rumours that he has switched camp.

He stressed that he cannot be ungrateful to Dr Bawumia after making him the running mate.

Napo stated, “It is not true, I’ve not moved from any camp to any camp. I remain where I am. Can I be ungrateful to Dr Bawumia after making me the running mate? What kind of human being will be so ungrateful?

I’ve not moved any camp; what I’ve done is to try and unite the party against whoever emerges as the flagbearer of the NPP. There’s only one person who can become the flagbearer of the NPP”.
