The Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations of NACOC, Francis Opoku Amoah, has boldly assured Ghanaians that their raids are not going to be one-off as they will be sustained.

According to Francis Opoku Amoah, the Commission is determined to intensify the fight against illicit drugs.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, December 28, the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations of NACOC stated, “Let me assure the general public that it is not going to be a one-off thing [raids].

It is something that we will continue to do, whatever we say that we’re going to do with the help of God, with our professional training, guidance, support and leadership of our current management, I’m very sure that we will see to the end of everything that we say we’re going to do,” he said.

“Say something once you see some of these activities in your locality, we will investigate and take action,” he appealed.

His comments follow the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) festive-season crackdown code-named “Operation White Ember”, which has led to the arrest of 72 suspects in Eastern and Greater Accra regions.

NACOC “Operation White Ember” targeted Madina Redco Flats, Zongo Junction, and the railway slums around Airport City in the Greater Accra Region.

In the Eastern Region, Mamfe and Tutu were stormed by NACOC officers.

72 suspects were arrested during the operations.

On Friday, December 26, NACOC Operation White Ember also stormed the Tema Community One and Teshie Nungua additional arrests were made with narcotic substances seized.

Also, NACOC operations were carried out at shopping malls and beaches across the capital.

Some netizens reacting to the news stated, “Sweep them all”.

A netizen added, “Something big is going on in Ghana”.

One more X user added, “It’s like a massive cleanup going on all over. State agencies working is a remarkable thing to see. It should not be smoke in our eyes”.

Meanwhile, DSP Jalil Bawah of the IGP’s Special Operations Taskforce has announced the arrest of a respected Islamic cleric based in Tamale.

He revealed that the Islamic cleric and the wife of another Hajia were busted for illegal drug trade.

Speaking at a public event, Jalil Bawah explained, “We have arrested a Hajia upon a tip-off that she was dealing in the illicit drug trade. I ordered my men to search her, and the females among them did, and our suspicion was confirmed. Upon her arrest, we searched her house we discovered the illicit drugs and large quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

When asked who her supplier was, she mentioned the name of the wife of a popular Islamic cleric, who also mentioned the name of the son of a prominent person. During investigations, it was uncovered that the so-called Islamic cleric is the main supplier. As we speak, he is on remand. We must start to name and shame some of them”, he revealed.
