The sisters of Joana Yabani, the KNUST Biological Sciences student who was allegedly murdered on campus in February this year, are appealing for an expedited legal process.

Joana Yabani’s family are calling on the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the judges handling the case, and all relevant authorities to expedite the legal process and deliver justice without further delay.

Their plea comes as today, 5th November 2025, marks what would have been Joana’s 22nd birthday.

It will be recalled, the case involves 21-year-old final-year student Joana Yabani and Daniel Tuffuor, who stands accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Police investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect were in a relationship.

The accused Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Joana’s lifeless body was discovered on campus earlier that morning.

The university’s security service, upon being alerted to the incident, promptly reported it to the police. Also, CCTV footage reportedly captured a man, alleged to be Tuffuor, strangling Joana to death following an altercation.

In a viral video shared on X on November 5, 2025, the sisters of the late Joana called on the court for the legal proceedings to be accelerated.

One sister stated, “We have attended several court hearings after the initial appearance, but constant adjournments have characterised this process. This raises serious concerns. What exactly is happening with our judicial system regarding this case?

“Is there not sufficient evidence to secure a conviction for the accused, Daniel Tuffuor, after nearly a year? A swift resolution is imperative, as justice delayed is justice denied,” she said.

According to the family, the late Joana Yabani would have celebrated her 22nd birthday on November 5, 2025.

“Today, November 5, 2025, is supposed to be Joana’s 22nd birthday. Instead of celebrating the future that was stolen, we are mourning our innocent sister.

“We are sending this video as an appeal to the Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General, the judges handling my sister’s case and all concerned authorities. Cases of this nature, the shedding of innocent blood and the cutting short of a bright future, must be treated with the utmost urgency.”

Some Ghanaians have reacted to the video, saying, “In the issues of murder, cases are not done with haste to avoid false judgments. The punishment of murder is death, and no one should die unless it has been proven that, beyond all reasonable doubt, the offence was committed by the accused”.

“Justice delayed is our system! Why, in our efforts to alleviate suffering, do we so often make it worse?”

The immense time taken for justice to be served becomes a form of ongoing suffering or “denied” justice for all involved!”, one more netizen wrote.

Additionally, a netizen added, “I knew justice would be delayed when they buried her early. Keeping her in the morgue would have prolonged the pain. We don’t always have to demand justice for our loved ones before authorities do the right thing. 8 months should be enough to gather evidence for the final verdict”.
