The lead counsel for the former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has revealed that the home of his client was raided by officers from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB)

According to lead counsel Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, his client’s residence was searched as part of investigations into alleged sales of government-funded overseas scholarships.

The lawyer, in an interview with Channel One News, detailed that the officers who conducted the search were unable to produce a warrant when requested.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, February 10, Baffour Awuah stated, “After the search, they returned to the NIB Office. They told us they are taking him to another place. Now, in the convoy of three pick-ups, they have left the NIB office. Questions as to where they are taking him to, nobody has answered to us.

“He is in the company of heavily armed NIB officers. Right now, as the lawyer of Kofi Ofosu I don’t know where my client is,” he said.

Also, the raid follows the lawyer for Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, who had earlier announced that their client was not arrested by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB).

According to Ofosu Nkansah’s legal team, led by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Ofosu Nkansah voluntarily appeared before the NIB to provide information on allegations of the sale of government-funded overseas scholarships by the Scholarship Secretariat.

The clarification follows Dzifa Gunu, CEO of Ghana Digital Centre Limited, who had earlier detailed that Kofi Ofosu Nkansah was picked up after refusing the NIB’s invitation.

The NIB raid comes on the heels of President John Dramani Mahama, who directed them to immediately investigate corruption allegations in the award of foreign scholarships.

According to the Presidency, the allegation by Kofi Ofosu Nkansah in the award of overseas scholarships is a matter of “grave public concern”.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Minister in charge of Government Communications, highlighted that the discussion, conducted in Twi, has since gained wide public circulation and drawn the President’s attention.

He added that after reviewing the broadcast, President Mahama concluded that the allegation was serious and against the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and equal access to educational opportunities.

Felix Ofosu Kwakye revealed that President Mahama has formally directed the National Investigation Bureau to immediately investigate the allegation and to establish the factual basis of the claim.

The NIB are also to identify any persons involved, and determine the veracity of the allegations.

The directive was contained in a letter dated 3rd February 2026, signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President wiith some part saying, “The Bureau has also been directed to submit its findings to the President for consideration and any appropriate action that may arise”.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah’s troubles stem from an allegation he made on Sompa 106.5 FM that an individual paid money to secure a scholarship to pursue studies abroad under the current NDC government.

He stated, “These are the things Dr Bawumia says he would stop, and so he is bringing digitalisation, which was accepted by the delegates. I would not be a hypocrite to pretend that it doesn’t happen, because even with the new NDC government, I know people who have bought a foreign scholarship… The person bought the scholarship and has travelled abroad.

“I don’t know the exact amount the scholarships are sold for, but some cost up to GH¢100,000. Some NPP members are even buying it to travel abroad, I’m telling you,” he claimed.

He added, “What I’m trying to say is that whether the NDC is in power or the NPP, some of these excesses happen. We cannot pretend or think that it doesn’t happen. I’m talking about things that have already happened.”
