The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of 20-year-old Promise Yayra Asamani by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team for allegedly publishing false information on social media, Snapchat abount an Uber Driver.
20-year-old Promise Yayra Asamani based her post on her sister Stephanie’s account of a dispute during a ride.
The viral post falsely labelled a 43-year-old Uber driver, Selasie Kwaku Anthonio, as a murderer and thief, displaying his photo and vehicle number.
Reports suggest that following the post, the driver reportedly received distressing calls, and his Uber account was suspended, affecting his livelihood.
The Ghana Police Service investigations later traced the post to Miss Yayra Asamani, who admitted publishing it based solely on her sister’s account.
Promise Yayra Asamani has since been granted police enquiry bail as investigations continue.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has arrested 20-year-old Promise Yayra Asamani for publishing false news on social media.
On Wednesday, 11th March, 2026, Selasie Kwaku Anthonio, a 43-year-old Uber driver, reported to the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team regarding a viral Snapchat post.
The post, which featured his photograph and vehicle registration number, AD-1479-25, falsely labelled him a “murderer and a thief”. It further alleged that he uses signal jammers to disconnect passengers’ network connectivity and also carries offensive weapons.
According to the complainant, he became aware of the post on 10th March, 2026, at about 14:57 hrs after being alerted by his nephew, Godsway Tetteh.
Following the viral spread, the complainant received numerous distressing calls from family and customers. Subsequently, Uber blocked his account, depriving him of his livelihood. He also expressed significant fear for his life due to the risk of public hostility.
Investigations by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team led to the arrest of Stephanie Asamani, a sister of Promise Yayra Asamani, on Friday, 13th March, 2026, at her residence in Cambodia, Spintex, Accra.
During interrogation, Stephanie indicated that on 9th March, 2026, at about 14:00 hrs, she booked a ride from Spintex to Oyibi with the complainant as the driver.
Shortly after starting, the driver requested her to change the drop-off location to a nearby destination so he could go “off-trip.”
During the trip, the driver made a call in Ewe, stating, “I am bringing the goods to the location, so wait.”
According to Stephanie, she observed a rag and a hammer in the boot area of the car, and further stated that the driver suddenly stopped at the Toyota Motors Roundabout, and that resulted in a verbal altercation, so she exited the vehicle.
When she got home, Stephanie narrated the incident to her sisters and sent a screenshot of the driver’s profile to her younger sister, Promise Yayra Asamani.
On 11th March, 2026, Stephanie discovered the story had been posted on Snapchat. When confronted, Promise claimed she published the details “to create awareness.”
Further investigations confirmed that Promise Yayra Asamani authored the post, which explicitly labelled the driver a “killer”.
Suspect Promise Yayra Asamani failed to honour an official police invitation on 12th March, 2026, leading to her arrest on Saturday, 14th March, 2026.
During interrogation, she admitted the post was based solely on her sister’s narrative and that she had no evidence to substantiate the allegations against the driver.
She has since been granted police enquiry bail today (March 16/03/2026) as the investigation continues.
The police take this opportunity to caution the general public against publishing false news, since that is against the laws of the country”.
