John Odartey Lamptey, alias Nii Adjei, the Landlord who was captured in a recent viral video assaulting his wife, and two others, identified as his siblings, have been remanded by the Magistrate Court at DOVVSU for assault and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The three are expected to reappear in court on 3rd December 2025, as the Ghana Police Service intensifies efforts to find the victim and has urged anyone with information about the victim to come forward, promising confidentiality.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement providing an update, stated, “The Magistrate Court at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has remanded accused persons, John Odartey Lamptey, alias Nii Adjei and two others into police custody. The accused, who was captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife, has been charged with Physical Assault, contrary to Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).
The two others, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey, have also been charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, to wit “threat of harm” contrary to Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), after they attempted attacking a female tenant, they suspected of recording and circulating the viral video”.
“All three have been remanded into police custody to reappear before the court on 3rd December 2025.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service would like to once again urge the victim or anyone with credible information on her whereabouts to contact the nearest Police station.
We assure the public that all information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality”, the Police statement added.
Recall, in a viral video shared on social media, the landlord was captured in a disturbing scene beating his wife with a large stick.
The Ghana Police, in an earlier statement released and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the PRO of the CID, read, “The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.
The suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was arrested on Monday, November 17th 2025, at the family residence”.
The statement added, “Following his arrest, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video, were also arrested, and the tenant was rescued to ensure her safety.
Efforts are underway to locate and ensure the safety of the wife who had fled the scene before the Police arrived.
