The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman for allegedly stealing a newborn baby at the Mamprobi Polyclinic.

Reports suggest the baby was later rescued and reunited with the mother at the Dansoman Police Station today February, 18, 2026.

In a viral video shared by EDHUB, the woman was seen in custody at the Police station, and some irate residents were also seen at the Police station.

In a separate video, a resident at the Dansoman Police Station has revealed that the suspect was tracked down through her own sister.

Sources alleged that the suspect called her sister, claiming she had given birth and invited her over.

However, the sister, aware of reports about a missing baby, recognised the infant as the one allegedly stolen from the Mamprobi Polyclinic and alerted authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

The arrest follows news of irate residents storming the Mamprobi Polyclinic over an alleged baby theft.

The Police have confirmed that the baby thief is in custody and assisting with investigations.

The information gathered suggests there was an uneasy tension yesterday afternoon, February 17, 2026, at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in the Greater Accra Region, following reports of an alleged baby theft.

Reports suggest a newborn was taken from the facility by a woman dressed as a nurse.

According to reports, the baby was stolen after the mother delivered the child through a cesarean section.

In a viral video circulating on social media Concerned relatives and community members demanded swift action as authorities intensified investigations.

The Concerned relatives and community members further accused the workers of being accomplices in the incident while recording the confrontation.

In the video, one angry woman was heard shouting, saying, “Someone gave birth through an operation, and you have stolen the child to go and sell it. All of you will suffer. Someone’s child, and this hot afternoon, you have stolen the child,”

Another voice stated, “All of them are aware and accomplices. Do you know how she has suffered?”

Meanwhile, Ghanaians reacting to the latest development stated, “There must be forensic investigations into this. All those on duty must be called to answer questions: the nurses, security, PA, doctors, etc. They must all be questioned. If not for the CCTV, this woman would have escaped. She must pay for this”.

“Stealing a baby? In broad daylight? What’s this world coming to? There are so many kids at the orphanages, even newborns. Why not go and adopt one if you desperately need a kid?

That brings another question… Why does she even need a newborn?”, one X user added.

One more Ghanaian added, “I am happy for the mother and everything, but if it were me, I’d still sue the hospital. Losing a newborn baby is unacceptable. Proper security protocols need to be put in place. No one even knows what the kidnapper did with the baby during the time they were together. It’s a problem”.

“The thief looks so ashamed. I just do not know what drove her to this point. Maybe she can’t have children of her own, or maybe she needed the baby for money rituals. I hope the police get to the bottom of this because I doubt this woman was working alone. Thieves hardly do”, a netizen added.
