KT Hammond, the former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa and a close friend of Ken Agyapong, has explained why he did not support Ken’s bid to become NPP flagbearer.

According to KT Hammond, KenAgyapong is a very close friend, adding that his relationship with Ken Agyapong is not a food relationship.

KT Hammond revealed that Ken Agyapong recently insulted him over a matter that he had wanted to disclose to him.

Speaking in an interview on January 31, 2026, KT Hammond explained, “My relationship with Ken Agyapong is not a food relationship; we go deep, deep down. The reason why, he adopted me as his brother is because of the extraordinary amount of help that I have bestowed on him.

Sometime in August, I was sitting at my desk when Ken called me. He made a complaint about the MP for Mampong about something that had happened in Mampong that did not seem to be true. That matter had gone viral, it was that Adu Boahene thing, which ended up with all the name-calling he piled on Dr Bawumia”.

He further added, “ I have been given some information related to Ken himself, and I thought it was important I give it to him, so I said to Ken, but I have actually been looking for you because there is this matter that I want to bring to your attention. This is all I said. Ken insulted me as if he had gone mad, as if he had gone bonkers. He said whatever he wanted to say to me.

“And I’m telling you, the wife that I mentioned was crying in the car. They were shouting at him, Ken, this is actually KT you are talking to. What is the matter?” he recounted.

KT Hammond further revealed that Ken had disclosed to him in private that a Muslim could not become president, adding that he told him that was nonsense.

He further explained, “But he had been going on about this Muslim thing. In private, he had told me that if you were Muslim, you cannot be a president in Ghana. I told him, you are talking nonsense.

“Keep this between the two of us. You go out, and you talk nonsense like that; there will be a problem. You know I’m a Muslim.

“Do you people know I’m a Muslim? And I go and follow Ken for him to spread the message that as a Muslim, you can’t be president.

“You think I’m mad? Apart from his money, what has distinguished me from Kennedy Agyapong? If he could be president, you think I can’t be president? Tell me, I can be president, Ken can be president. And you expect me to go and follow him and send a campaign to Muslims that we Muslims cannot be president,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ken Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, has accepted the results of the party’s presidential primary, calling for all supporters to back Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Ken Agyapong, he pledges his support and has accepted the results declared by the EC.

He further called on his supporters to stay calm, respect the results as they work to win the 2028 election.

Speaking after the declaration of results by the Electoral Commission at the party headquarters in Accra on Saturday, January 31, Ken Agyapong stated, “I stand before you to pledge my support and also to accept the results declared by the EC. The delegates have spoken, and I want to plead with my supporters that they should stay calm and respect the results and help all of us to work together to win the 2028 elections”.

“I want to thank my supporters and advise you that in an election, you can win and lose. So if you lose, you need to accept it in good faith,” he added.

“So let’s all of us throw our support to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer, and all I say is NPP we need unity in the party, but unity comes with respect. we have to respect each other’s views,” he stated.
