Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has said it is his job to make sure President John Mahama’s vision of improved roads across Ghana comes to pass.
The Roads Minister noted that President Mahama is committed to improving roads across the country.
He revealed that road construction activities will be significantly intensified in 2026.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, January 5, 2026, Mr Agbodza stated, “The President has committed to Ghanaians to improving roads across the country. You have heard him whenever he goes to meet stakeholders, talking about the networks to be improved”.
“So, the President has committed resources for these roads to be improved. He made provisions in the budget for the Finance Minister to read. My job is to make sure that the vision of the President comes to pass,” Mr Agbodza stated.
He added, “I agree with you, this year and next year, we would have to see a lot of work being done”.
“Fortunately, the core of the projects has now been awarded, and it is time for us to now focus on the contractors and the consultants to ensure that they do good work for us to get value for money, considering the investments we are putting into road construction,” Mr Agbodza said.
In a separate interview, Kwame Governs Agbodza made a staggering revelation concerning the John Mahama-led government flagship project, the Big Push Initiative.
According to the Road Minister, the government has awarded $5 billion worth of projects under the Big Push initiative without borrowing.
Governs Agbodza is quoted by GHOne to have stated, “Without borrowing, we have awarded $5 billion worth of projects under the Big Push Initiative”.
Also, the Roads Minister has praised the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, for his unprecedented payment of road contractors.
Governs Agbodza stressed that in recent months, Ato Forson has disbursed more funds to contractors than any other finance minister in Ghana’s history
Speaking in an interview with the media on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Agbodza stated, “Dr Ato Forson has, within the last few months, paid road contractors and service providers more than any other Finance Minister in history”.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has made a bold declaration that Ghana will have the best roads in West Africa within the next 24 months under the Big Push Initiative.
He announced his government is dedicated to constructing more roads over the next two years, with the aim of making transportation safer and more efficient.
