Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is panicking and panting over the NPP’s decision to hold early presidential primaries.
According to Wontumi, the NDC, after the NPP’s primaries, will inherit the NPP’s problems till the 2028 elections.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Wontumi stated, “Actually, the NDC is panicking because of the decision we took. This exercise, the NDC is monitoring, and they are panicking, they are panting.
So, after today, all the problems of the NPP will start going down, and we will give all the problems to the NDC to inherit till 2028,” he said.
Meanwhile, the former Vice President secured a commanding victory in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday Janurary 31, 2026.
Dr Bawumia is now set to lead the NPP in the 2028 election as they seek to regain power from the NDC.
Dr Bawumia polled 110,645, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast, which was confirmed by Electoral Commission officials at the party’s headquarters.
Ken Agyapong came in second place with 46, 554 votes (23.76%), while Dr Bryan Acheampong secured third position with 36,303 votes (18.53%).
They were followed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes (1.02%) and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth with 402 votes, representing 0.21%.
Also, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on all party members to put aside differences and work together to win the 2028 elections.
Speaking after being officially declared the NPP flagbearer, Dr Bawumia stressed that the outcome of the election should mark the beginning of cooperation among party members.
He further appealed to delegates and supporters across the country to let go of any reservations they may have and unite behind the party’s vision.
Dr Bawumia stated, “Together we stand, divided we fall.”
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, has been elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once again.
Also, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Dr Bawumia to lead with clarity and purpose.
Akufo-Addo acknowledged Dr Bawumia’s character and commitment to party ideals.
He stated, “I know his mind, and I know his character. He is loyal to party principles,” Akufo-Addo said, urging the former Vice President to offer focused leadership in the period ahead”.
