NDC to hold National Delegates Conference to elect new leaders on Dec 19

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced Saturday, December 19, 2026, as the date for its National Delegates Conference.

According to the NDC, the National Delegates Conference will be held to elect new national executives.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC’s General Secretary, made this announcement during a press conference on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

He highlighted that the internal elections would be conducted using a bottom-up approach, adding that the process will begin at the branch level, progress through the constituency and regional stages, and conclude at the national level.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey further revealed that vetting of aspirants is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, and Friday, November 13, 2026.

The NDC’s General Secretary stated, “The main congress to elect all of the national executives for the NDC in this important year of reorganisation will happen on Saturday, December 19, 2026, that completes the very important edifice that is supposed to prepare for the next round of fighting for the power in the country and also ensuring that we continue the wonderful job we are doing in resetting the country”.

“Appeals will be done on Sunday, November 15 and November 16. 2026. Then, for the youth and women conference, we are looking at Saturday, December 12, 2026”, he added.

Also, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has barred all serving government appointees from contesting executive positions within the party.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey explained that government appointees who wish to contest must resign from their appointments.

According to Fifi Kwetey, the decision forms part of measures ahead of the party’s reorganisation, which begins on January 30.

He added that a government appointee who intends to contest must resign at least six months before filing nomination forms.

“Any person contesting any position in the party who is holding an office to which he or she was appointed by the president, or the government shall resign at least six (6) clear months from the said office or appointment prior to the filing of the nomination forms for the party position he or she desires to contest,” he stated.

“Persons who are affected by the restrictions specified in paragraph (1) of this section shall include the following:

(a) Ministers and Deputy Ministers;

(b) Chief Executive Officers or Managing Directors and Deputy Chief Executive Officers or Deputy Managing Directors, or analogous officers;

(c) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Administrative Units of the Government of Ghana,” he said.

He, however, clarified that board members are exempt from the directive.

“A person appointed as a chairperson or member of any Board, or any analogous position shall be exempt from the restrictions imposed by paragraph (1) of this section,” he added.
