The Ghana Police Service Officers at the Volta Regional Police Command have rejected a $20,000 bribe from a Nigerian drug dealer identified as Charles Adenkule.

Reports suggest the Police Officers arrested the suspect on January 23, 2026.

The suspect, Charles Adenkule, was driving a Jeep registered in Nigeria (FKJ692KF) when he was stopped at the Kpotame barrier between Ada Junction (Kasseh) in the Greater Accra Region and Sogakope.

The police officers intercepted the Nigerian-bound vehicle, which was carrying narcotics worth over one million Ghana cedis, with the suspect allegedly offering to bribe them with $20,000, but the officers rejected the offer.

According to reports, it is yet to be known whether the illicit drugs originated from Ghana or Ghana was being used as a transit route.

Also, ten parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, with a street value of GH₵1,032,650, and half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were uncovered from the vehicle.

A senior police source at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters revealed the operation was based on actionable intelligence.

Charles Adenkule, the suspect, is now in custody as investigations continue.

His Jeep has been impounded at the Volta Regional Police Headquarters in Ho, and the seized substances will be processed and sent to the forensic laboratory for further analysis.

The news comes at a time when Christian Tetteh Yohunu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), has said officers of the Ghana Police Service can no longer be bribed.

According to IGP Yohunu, anyone who attempts to bribe a Police Officer in the line of duty will be disgraced.

He stressed that Police Officer now prefer to be promoted for good behaviour rather than accept bribes.

Speaking at an event, the Inspector General of Police stated, “Today, I assure you, you cannot bribe a policeman anymore. If you attempt to bribe a police man, he will disgrace you. They all want to be promoted for good behaviour”.

“We want to be one of the best police in the world, and we are carving that image, which generation upon generation will follow, so that we get our glory back and make everybody in Ghana proud,” he said.

Meanwhile, in recent weeks, the IGP has been promoting Police Officers who demonstrated exceptional professionalism and dedication.

The IGP earlier promoted seventeen Police Officers in recognition of their exemplary conduct, professionalism, and dedication to duty.

IGP Yohuno promoted the officers to their next ranks today, 14th January 2026.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2025, the Police service in a post on social media stated, “The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on 14th January 2026, promoted seventeen Police Officers, including two(2) Senior Officers, to their next ranks in recognition of their exemplary conduct, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
