Alhassan Suhuyini, the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Tamale North, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s popularity is giving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) sleepless nights.
According to Mr Suhuyini, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had hope to profit from on customary political dynamics, but Mahama’s support is undermining those expectations.
He noted that President Mahama’s public support is due to citizens’ approval of the government’s performance.
He stressed that Mahama’s leadership style, policy choices, and engagement have increased his popularity and urged NDC members and supporters to sustain the momentum.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, December 23, Mr Suhuyini stated, “Yes, the popularity of the President is growing by the day, and it is giving the NPP sleepless nights.”
“I think it is so because they probably would have liked to take advantage of such growing popularity,” he said.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has issued a Christmas message ahead of the festive period.
President Mahama used his message to reaffirm his administration’s “Resetting Ghana” policy agenda.
According to President Mahama, the Reset Agenda is to reposition the country with prudent management and policies that create opportunities for citizens, particularly the youth.
He also emphasised that his administration would work tirelessly, in partnership with the citizenry, to build an economy that works for every Ghanaian.
Mahama also highlighted that his government is focused on reviving the economy, completing stalled projects, expanding Ghana’s infrastructure.
In the message shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, read, “It’s my first Christmas with you, as your come-back President and I am filled with gratitude for the trust you have placed in my government. We are committed to the #ResettingGhana Agenda to position Ghana on a path of inclusive growth, job creation, accountability, and prosperity.
“As we work, together, tirelessly to revive our economy, complete stalled projects, expand our infrastructure, and build a Ghana that works for every citizen, let us draw inspiration from the hope that Christmas brings,” the post read.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has labelled the proposal by the Constitution Review Committee as revolutionary and radical.
According to President Mahama, some of the recommendations are revolutionary and radical, but in the interest of Ghana’s democracy.
President Mahama stressed that the recommendations are necessary to strengthen governance and restore public confidence in democratic institutions, noting that several countries in the subregion are experiencing coups.
Speaking after receiving the final report from the Committee in Accra on Monday, December 22, Mahama stated, “I think that many of the recommendations you’ve made are quite revolutionary. Some are quite radical, but I think it’s in the interest of our democracy”.
“It is important for us to let our citizens know that democratic governance is still better than any other form of governance.”
He further added, “You were carefully chosen for your integrity, your credibility, and we haven’t had the experience of constitutional review committees before and the fact that at the end of it we had been unable to agree how to move the process forward”.
President Mahama further revealed plans for a nonpartisan committee for the implementation process starting early next year.
He added, “This time we said let’s choose the committee very carefully, so that it’s a committee that Ghanaians have trust in, so that when the report comes it would be nonpartisan, it would not have been influenced by any political interest, so that it would make it easier for all of us to come together and move the process forward,” he noted.
“As soon as we resume early next year, we’re moving from the constitutional review process into the implementation process, and so early next year we’ll announce an implementation committee”, he added.
