Kwesi Botchwey Jnr, a private legal practitioner, has filed a Right to Information (RTI) demanding details on some claims made by President John Dramani Mahama during the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The NPP lawyer in his RTI request is seeking Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) to provide more details on Mahama’s 1 million jobs and GH¢ 600m ORAL recoveries claims.

In a Facebook post on Monday, March 2, 2026, Kwesi Botchwey stated, “This afternoon, we filed two RTI requests — one at EOCO and the other at the Ghana Statistical Service.

At page 32 of the President’s State of the Nation Address, he mentioned that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) had investigated 462 cases and recovered over GH¢600 million as of December 2025. We requested details of the recovery, specifically:

1. The cases in which the GH¢600 million was recovered.

2. The persons involved in the cases in which the monies were recovered.

3. The nature of the cases and their case/suit numbers.

4. The dates of the recoveries.

5. The details of the bank accounts into which the recovered GH¢600 million was paid.

Our second request was filed with the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), demanding details of the one million jobs reportedly created by President John Mahama in 2025. I requested the following:

1. A breakdown of the jobs created, including:

i. Jobs created in the private sector.

ii. Jobs created in the public sector.

2. Details of the institutions that created the one million jobs, namely:

i. Public institutions.

ii. Private institutions.

iii. Other entities”.

His RTI request follows, Mahama, who during the SONA address, highlighted that data from the Ghana Statistical Service shows that one million people found employment between the first and third quarters of 2025.

According to John Mahama, one million Ghanaians have found employment between Quarter 1 and Quarter 3 of 2025.

Mahama detailed that the figures reflect the impact of targeted interventions aimed at stimulating job creation across key sectors of Ghana’s economy.

President Mahama further disclosed that the Ghana Statistical Service indicated that approximately 950,000 people also exited multidimensional poverty in 2025.

Speaking during the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Friday, February 27, President Mahama stated, “According to the Ghana Statistical Service, over 1 million Ghanaians have found employment between quarter one and quarter three of 2025. About 950,000 have escaped multidimensional poverty over the same period.

This improvement indicates that our economy is gaining strength and resilience on the global stage. We are moving decisively from planning to action on our flagship 24-hour economy,” he said.

Also, Mahama announced that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has recovered more than GH₵600 million in stolen public funds.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, President John Mahama detailed, “As of December 2025, EOCO had recovered more than GHS 600 million.

The Office has investigated 462 cases, with 15 currently under prosecution, and dismantled transnational car-jacking syndicates, recovering 29 luxury vehicles”.
