Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip, has issued a stern warning to the NPP following the Supreme Court Kpandai ruling.

According to Dafeamekpor, the NDC will wait for the Supreme Court’s reasoning on February 6, after which the party will determine its next course of action.

Speaking after the Supreme Court ruling, Mr Dafeamekpor stressed, “The NPP shouldn’t think that it is over. It is not over. As a party, we are grieved by this decision, and therefore we would advise our candidate in the matter regarding the next step to take. But the court is a court of equity and of law”.

“We should be interested in the gazette notification published by the Assembly Press under the authority of the Electoral Commission that was brought to Parliament, from which people like me were sworn in. That cannot be a gazette that will be discounted by the court, because it is a public document,” he argued.

He added, “When the court gave the decision in our favour, they called it a kangaroo court. Today, when they have obtained a decision in their favour, they are singing the praises of the court”.

“We are law-abiding, and we want to urge our teeming supporters both here and in Kpandai to remain calm. This is not the end,” he said.

“The ruling of the court will be filed according to the court’s own decision by the sixth of February. The NPP shouldn’t think that it is over. It is not over,” Mr Dafeamekpor reiterated.

Dafeamekpor remarks follow the Supreme Court, in a 4-1 majority decision, has quashed the Tamale High Court judgment that annulled the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam’s victory.

The Apex court decision effectively restores the NPP Matthew Nyindam as the parliamentary candidate for Kpandai.

Justice Gabriel Scott Pawmang was the Judge who presided as President of the Bench, dissenting.

The Supreme Court panel that determined the matter was made up of Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Amadu-Omoro Tanko, Yonny Kulendi, Samuel Kwame Adibu Asiedu, and Henry Kwoffie.

Matthew Nyindam applied for certiorari, which was granted by the Sumpreme court challenged the High Court’s authority to nullify his election.

The full reasons for the Supreme Court ruling are expected to be released on 6 February 2026.

It will be recalled that Lawyers for New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam, argued that the Tamale High Court acted without jurisdiction.

They argued that the Kpandai parliamentary election was gazetted on December 24, 2024.

However, Lawyers for Mr Nsala Wakpal have strongly opposed the application.

They maintained that the High Court acted within its constitutional mandate.

Also, the Electoral Commission has acknowledged the existence of multiple Gazette notifications and detailed that the different Gazette numbers reflected different batches of constituencies.
