News“Observers are watching” – Kwesi Pratt on Mahama, Haruna’s comments on a female president

Kwesi Pratt Jr, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has weighed in on comments made by President John Mahama and Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu regarding Ghana having a first female president.

It will be recalled that Haruna Iddrisu told the Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, that it is his prayer that God gives her a long life and health to one day become Ghana’s first female President.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, Prof Jane Naana’s elevation to the second-highest office of the land is a milestone for women in leadership.

Haruna Iddrisu stated, “It is my pride and honour to welcome you back to the Ministry of Education, this time in an elevated capacity as the first female Vice President of our Republic.

It is my prayer that God will give you long life and good health…that probably you will be elevated to become the first female President. May Allah grant you the strength”, he added.

Also, President John Dramani Mahama, speaking at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, China, on Monday, October 13, John Mahama stated confidently stated, Ghana will soon have its first female President.

According to John Mahama, he is confident that women will break the glass ceiling for Ghana to have its first female president.

John Mahama stated, “In my capacity as the African Union champion for gender and women’s empowerment, the government of Ghana has continued to take decisive steps to mainstream gender across our national development policies.

We’ve achieved historic milestones, including the election of Ghana’s first female vice president and the unprecedented appointment of women to leadership positions in government, the judiciary, the security services, and key national institutions.

“These are not just symbolic gestures. They are affirmations that women deserve a seat at the table of the highest levels of decision-making. And I am confident that in the very near future, our women will break the glass ceiling and [there] will be a woman president of the Republic of Ghana,” he said.

Reacting to the development, the veteran Journalist took to his social media page on X, noting that something interesting is happening in the Presidency.

According to him, observers are watching with very keen eyes and listening with anxious ears.

Kwesi Pratt wrote, “First, it was Honourable Haruna Iddrisu(@iharunaiddrisu), Minister of Education, who said directly that he sees a future President of Ghana in Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang(@NJOAgyemang), the sitting Vice President.

#Haruna, who has been mentioned in what many believe to be a scientific poll by Global Info Analytics (@GlobalInfoPolls) as the frontrunner in the race to replace @JDMahama as President, has repeated this prediction.

President John Dramani Mahama has also on two occasions said that he is “confident that in the very near future, there will be a woman President of #Ghana”.

Kwesi Pratt further added a quote from President Mahama at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Beijing, China to establish his point.

He concluded saying, “Well, something is definitely happening at least at the Presidency and in the Government machine, and we can see and feel it”.
