Eric Opoku, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, has said Ken Ofori-Atta’s failure to return to Ghana is a disgrace to himself and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Eric Opoku stressed that he does not understand why Ken Ofori-Atta does not want to return to Ghana to account for his stewardship.

The Agric Minister recounted that when the NDC lost power, he was also called to account for his stewardship.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV, Eric Opoku stated, “I have been a minister before. When we lost office, the NPP had assumed the office. They wrote to me to come and meet the transition team. I went and met with them. They asked me the questions, I responded, and that ended it,” he recounted on GH One TV on January 22, 2026.

“I think that every public officeholder must understand that once you are entrusted with a responsibility, you will one day account for your stewardship, and so when the day comes, you don’t run.

“It is absolutely wrong for you to presume that you will not account for your stewardship as a public servant. No, that shouldn’t be. So, some of us are worried about why a public officer should attempt to run away from accountability. Come listen and answer the questions. If you did your best with the best of intentions and your conscience judges you right, why do you fear?” he said.

Opoku further condemned Ofori-Atta’s failure to return to Ghana to be investigated, saying, his decision is “a disgrace to himself as a person and a disgrace to his party.”

Eric Opoku added, “What has happened is a disgrace to himself as a person and a disgrace to his party, so it is an unfortunate incident. It shouldn’t have happened at all. Some of the ministers of the previous regime are around. Whenever you invite them, they will come. You ask them the questions. If you find them culpable, expose them to the full rigours of the law. If they are not culpable, they will go back to their homes,” he indicated.

“It has been so since time immemorial, so I don’t understand why a whole finance minister, the handler of the purse of our nation, you don’t want to account for your stewardship,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a Ghanaian media personality now based in the United States, has told former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta he is denting the image of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, Ken Ofori-Atta is making the NPP distasteful and unattractive over his refusal to come back to Ghana to face his corruption-related offences.

He stressed that Ofori-Atta is making it seem that all NPP members are thieves.

Speaking in a video shared on social media, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah stated, “You have made the party look like there are no leaders, so everyone can do whatever he or she wants. When Ken Ofori-Atta was the Minister of Finance, we cautioned him about his poor performance and even called for his resignation. Ken, the way you are going, you are disgracing the NPP, but he made it clear that there was no way he would resign”.

“The fact that you have refused to come and answer questions goes a long way to denting the image of the NPP. It makes it look like all members of the party are thieves. We warned you while you were doing it. What sort of disgusting behaviour is that? Just come and face your charges, you don’t want to come,” he stated.

The Ghanaian media personality added, “Right now, the NPP is not what it used to be. It looks distasteful. If he believes he has done nothing wrong, he should come and answer questions so that confidence in the party can be rebuilt.

“Even when you were sick, and your face was swollen, did you resign? The party you don’t care about. The middle class of the party do not wish to join the NPP because of the things Paul Yandoh and Chairman Wontumi”.

Wontumi, a whole regional Chairman, became a symbolof comedy”, he added.
