NewsOne arrested in Police recruitment scam – Interior Minister

Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, has announced that one person has been arrested over a Police recruitment scam.

The Interior Minister confirmed the suspect was arrested for fraudulently selling recruitment slots in the security services.

Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak made this known during his visit to some selected police recruitment screening centres in Accra.

According to him, the selection into the security services is strictly merit-based.

Speaking to the media, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak stated, “This usual practice, where people sit in the comfort of their homes, avoiding the proper process, is a thing of the past. Under the leadership of President John Mahama, we will not tolerate it.

“Those deceiving people online should be careful and not let anyone mislead them. Over the weekend, we arrested one person for this, and he is currently in police custody. We are watching with an eagle eye,” the Minister said.

In related news, 2000 prospective recruits have completed the first phase of the Ghana Police Service enlistment exercise at the Police Training School in Patasi in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, January 12, DSP Godwin Ahianyo stated, “Today’s enlistment process is solely for those qualified for body selection, including HND holders, medical professionals, and degree graduates. It will continue tomorrow as well, divided into two sessions from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the morning and the same in the afternoon, handling about 2,000 candidates per session.

“From Thursday, the process will be conducted in four centres and will cater exclusively to WASSCE recruits,” DSP Ahianyo explained.

A prospective recruit also stated, “There is no stress here. I left home early in the morning, and I must say this has been the safest exercise I have attended”.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has announced the start of the second phase of the recruitment exercise for applicants to the internal security services who successfully passed the first phase.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the second phase will start from January 12 to February 4, 2026.

The Ministry revealed that the second phase will begin with applicants to the Ghana Police Service, adding that other services will be updated after January 15, 2026.

The Interior Ministry communication highlighted that successful candidates will receive SMS notifications indicating their specific screening date, time, and centre, with applicants assigned to either morning or afternoon sessions.

The statement also reminded applicants that failure to adhere to the timing of schedules will result in their disqualification.
