Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo-Frempong, the member of parliament for Abuakwa North, has revealed that there is a police presence in the Kukurantumi constituency.
The Member of Parliament assured residents that there is calm in the area.
According to the MP, despite the shutdown of the Kukurantumi Police Station, officers have returned.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo-Frempong stated, “I’m in Kukurantumi as we speak, and I can tell you that the Kukurantumi station is a substation. The main Police District Command is in Tafo, which is about a 5-minute drive to Kukurantumi. So there is a police presence in the constituency. There is another police post in Osiem.
But as I speak to you now, there is a police presence even in Kukurantumi. The whole police station is being guarded by police presence. So there’s calm, everything is okay, I don’t want people to panic, and everything is working smoothly,” he added.
The MP further added, “It happened over the weekend. So we’ll have a proper meeting tomorrow with the Regional Command together with the District Police Command, and then we’ll seek timelines as to when we’ll expect them to complete investigations”.
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, had earlier shut down the Police Station at Kukurantumi, a community in the Eastern Region.
The Police station was shut down, with all personnel being withdrawn following a violent clash between irate youths and the Police.
The irate youths stormed the police station on Sunday, September 21, 2025, following the death of a suspect, Bright Kena, also known as D-ball.
In a statement issued by the Police, it reads, “The Eastern Regional Police Command would like to inform the public that following attacks on the Kukurantumi Police Station in the Eastern Region by some youth of the town, the Inspector-General of Police has directed the withdrawal of all police personnel stationed at Kukurantumi and the close down of the police station”.

The Police statement further added, “A police reinforcement team, which was called in, managed to restore calm, law and order.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has engaged the deceased’s family and other community leaders and assured them of a thorough investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Department have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the: death of the suspect”.
According to the police, the video footage of the attack is being reviewed, and the perpetrators will be identified, arrested and brought to justice.
They further urged the public to use lawful means to resolve issues instead of resorting to violence.
