Police bust serial thief at 2025 Diaspora Summit

The suspect

Reagan Kwesi Egbi Addo, alias Morgan Addo, has been arrested by the Accra Central Division Police Command.

His arrests follows series of thefts at the Diaspora Summit 2025, held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

According to the Police statement, the suspect was arrested following operations conducted during the Diaspora Summit 2025 held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The Accra Central Divisional Police Command, acting on prior complaints of theft at the venue, heightened surveillance and identified the suspect, who is on their wanted list for several theft offences, posing as a legitimate participant with an official summit tag.

He was unable to satisfactorily explain his presence and was detained to assist investigations.

Further investigations revealed he allegedly uses deceptive ATM card-swapping methods and steals valuables during conferences.

A search at his Ashale Botwe residence led to the recovery of eight ATM cards belonging to different individuals, which have been kept as exhibits as investigations continue.

Parts of the police statement detailed the ATM retrieved from the suspect, “Police further escorted the suspect to his residence at Ashale Botwe, where a search was conducted. The search led to the recovery of eight (8) ATM cards belonging to different individuals. These include:

GCB Ready Cash ATM Card bearing the name Angela Esi Anderson

​GCB Debit Plus Visa Card bearing the name Isahaku Marisu

​GCB Debit Plus MasterCard bearing the name Abena Sefan

​GCB Classic MasterCard bearing the name Rubi Essinam Banah

​GCB Ready Cash ATM Card bearing the name Alimatu Inusah

​ABSA International Debit Visa Card bearing the name Ransford Ashitey

​GT Bank MasterCard with serial number 5454410003674430

​Fidelity Bank Visa Card bearing the name Edi Elliot

The recovered ATM cards have been retained as exhibits for further investigation. Police will formally engage the respective banks to assist in tracing the rightful owners of the cards to support ongoing investigations.”

In related news, the Regional Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, has announced that the Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 132 suspects across several operations in Accra. 

Superintendent Juliana Obeng detailed that the swoop led to the retrieval of various exhibits, including narcotic substances, suspected stolen items, and motorcycles.

Speaking during a press conference in Accra on December 23, Superintendent Juliana Obeng detailed, “The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a total of 132 suspects and retrieved various exhibits, including narcotic substances, suspected stolen items, and motorcycles, during a series of special swoop and motor operations conducted across several jurisdictions in the metropolis as part of sustained efforts to combat crime during this Christmas and beyond.”
