A Ghanaian man serving in the Russian army has bragged about the huge financial earnings he receives.
According to the Ghanaian man in the Russian army, the Russian army is the best, adding that his salary can feed a person’s family for 3 years.
In a video shared by CNN journalist Larry Madowo via X on February 14, 2025, the Ghanaian man was seen in a Russian military uniform.
The Ghanaian man further urged other Africans to come and join the Russian army, as it offers lucrative financial incentives.
In the viral video, the Ghanaian man stated, “The Russian army is the best army, it is not for kids. Understand it. You hear popo? Give and take. My salary can feed your father, mother, and family for like two years or three years,” the Ghanaian man, whose identity has not been disclosed, said.
In the video, a Ukrainian official who also spoke about African serving in the Russian army attributed the situation to economic hardship.
He stated, “As we understand, it is deception, and secondly, it is economic causes, because they are promised serious money for easy jobs, so why not?”
Some netizens reacting to the viral video stated, “Why is he always on TikTok but we never see him on the frontlines of the war?”.
“The Russian army being the best army is the biggest red flag. Anyone who’s seen the conditions of actual Russian infantrymen knows the situation is already dire for them. Now you, a foreigner from a state with little diplomatic pressure, you’re definitely not in good hands”, another X user added.
A netizen quizzed, “Why are you not reporting on the numerous Colombian mercenaries fighting for Ukraine?
Are the Colombian fighters being deceived into fighting for Ukraine just as African men are fighting for Russia? Or are you biased in your reporting, trying to push an agenda?”
“Sometimes it is not all about money, it’s about life! I know we may not all subscribe to this thought, but what will it benefit you to die before you enjoy the money? You will only get to enjoy the money once you are out of there, that is, if you make it, that is, if a drone does not appear while he is taking the video. Vanity!”, another African wrote.
“There are many fighters from multiple nations fighting on both sides. All with different reasons. Be it economic, ideology, escape from authorities, voluntarily or simply, it is an easier way to gain citizenship in these countries”, one more X user added.
One more netizen wrote, “So you are defending ukraine who left your African students naked to die in the snow, refused to let them evacuate??? These same racist ukrainians is your ally?I smell ngo money you stink of it…”,
Additionally, one more added, “Probably he is being used for propaganda to lure more Africans and neutralise the bad publicity they have been facing lately. I refuse to believe he has tasted the real battlefield”.
