Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Ghana’s Minister for Finance, has praised the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.

The Finance Minister stressed that the work Sammy Gyamfi has done at GoldBod will take another person 5 years to accomplish.

According to Ato Forson, the Ghana Gold Board has played a central role in the ongoing stabilisation of the Ghanaian economy.

Speaking in an interview with Radio Gold, Dr Forson stated, “I had to tackle inflation, and I had to tackle structural issues like how we build reserves to make sure the currency stabilises,”

“It is difficult to get such people around. You need someone with energy, drive, determination and a can-do spirit. You need to study people to know who can deliver, and we believe the President made the right choice.”

“To be honest, the kind of work Sammy Gyamfi has done at GoldBod in the last few months, it will take somebody five years to do, and I salute him for that,” he eulogised.

Dr Forson added, “The coordination we have done is working for us. The structural changes we have made, working together with the Central Bank, are yielding results. Today, you can see that the economy is doing well. It is a combination of effort.”

“There is no way we could have achieved even a quarter of what we have achieved without the support of the President,” Dr Forson said.

Meanwhile, Dr Emmanuel Steve Asare Manteaw, a Policy analyst and communication strategist, has claimed that all the attacks on GoldBod are because of the Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.

According to Dr Manteaw, the brouhaha around GoldBod is politically motivated and rooted in personal attacks against Sammy Gyamfi.

Dr Manteaw stressed that if anyone else were put in charge of the affairs of the Goldbod, all the noise would be gone.

He further urged Sammy Gyamfi not to be distracted by the few people making so much noise as he has the full support of the majority of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Dr Manteaw stated, “He sounded a bit frustrated with what appears to be an attempt to demonise the institution”.

“I think the attack on the GoldBod is all because of Sammy Gyamfi. If you put another person there, all this noise will stop,” he stated.

He added, “It can be frustrating when you are doing something with the best of intentions, and you find people trying to distract you from your mission”.

“He’s a very smart guy. He’s doing a good job. He should remain focused. He’s got the majority of Ghanaians behind him and should not be distracted by the very few people making so much noise,” he added.
