A video has emerged of the vehicle that saved the late former president Jerry John Rawlings when there was an assassination attempt on his life.

According to the narrator, the car was a remarkable vehicle and was also an automatic car with the gear around the steering wheel.

In the viral video, a man in the video stated, “This is the car they shot. They thought the body of the car was rather bulletproof, and the front door screen was thin. Not knowing the front screen is three and a half layers. So when they shot, the bullet penetrated only the first layer.

He added, “When he knew they knew the secret of the vehicles, there was no need for him to drive the vehicle again because if he drove, they would have assassinated him. So he parked the vehicle here, and they could not even provide a shelter for the vehicle”.

it must be noted that Rawlings led a group of junior officers in a coup attempt on May 15, 1979, just before Ghana’s constitutional elections.

His coup attempt was unsuccessful, with Rawlings and his fellow leaders imprisoned and facing court-martial.

On June 4, 1979, there was another counter-coup which led to the overthrow of the Akuffo regime and freeing Rawlings and his cohorts from prison.

This led to the abduction and killing of over 300 Ghanaians.

The viral video resurfaced following the death of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings died at the age of 76 years old.

According to reports, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was reportedly admitted to the Ridge Hospital in Accra, where she was receiving medical treatment.

The reports suggest he was unwell for some time and was under medical supervision.

Sources revealed the late First Lady passed away in the early hours of Thursday, 23 October, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

She served as Ghana’s longest First Lady from 1981 to 2001 as the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Serving from June 4, 1979, to September 24, 1979, under the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC).

Also from December 31, 1981, to January 6, 1993, under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), and also during her husband’s two constitutional terms from January 7, 1993, to January 6, 2001.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has declared a three-day national mourning following the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The three-day national morning begins today, Friday, October 24, and will end on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
