A couple have been arrested for allegedly beating their 13-year-old daughter to death over food.  

The information gathered suggests the incident happened at Kokrobite in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Reports suggest the 13-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her parents, who accused her of eating her younger brother’s food.

The 13-year-old victim has been identified as Celestine and was assaulted by her father, Issah Mohammed, and her stepmother, Yaa Grace.

According to reports, Yaa Grace, the stepmother, informed him of the alleged incident which led to the alleged beating.

Eyewitnesses revealed Issah used a cane, shovel, and cutlass to beat the young girl, resulting in severe internal injuries and locked her in a separate room without food or water, leading to her death the next day.

Reports suggest neighbours reported the suspicious incident to the police, resulting in the couple’s arrest.

Celestine’s biological mother’s relative, Justina Acquah, has revealed that Issah has a long history of abuse.

The body of the victim has been deposited at the Police Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Kokrobite District Police Command is investigating the incident.

In related domestic abuse news, John Odartey Lamptey, alias Nii Adjei, the Landlord who was captured in a recent viral video assaulting his wife, and two others, identified as his siblings, have been remanded by the Magistrate Court at DOVVSU for assault and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The three are expected to reappear in court on 3rd December 2025, as the Ghana Police Service intensifies efforts to find the victim and has urged anyone with information about the victim to come forward, promising confidentiality.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement providing an update, stated, “The Magistrate Court at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service has remanded accused persons, John Odartey Lamptey, alias Nii Adjei and two others into police custody. The accused, who was captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife, has been charged with Physical Assault, contrary to Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).

The two others, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey, have also been charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, to wit “threat of harm” contrary to Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), after they attempted attacking a female tenant, they suspected of recording and circulating the viral video”.

“All three have been remanded into police custody to reappear before the court on 3rd December 2025.
