Atik Mohammed, a National Youth Organiser hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has told Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to distance himself from Gabby Otchere Darko.

According to Atik Mohammed, it is not good optics for the new NPP Bawumia to seek to build if he has a close association with Gabby Otchere Darko.

He highlighted that Gabby and his kind played a major role in the growth of the apathy that impacted Bawumia’s fortunes in the 2024 election.

Atik Mohammed asserted that Gabby had his time and did what they did with it, adding that it’s time for him to take a back seat or no seat at all.

Atik Mohammed is quoted to have said, “Dr Bawumia must guard against even the appearance of close association with the likes of Gabby. It is not good optics for the new NPP he seeks to build, and certainly not for his chances in the next election.

Gabby and his kind played a major role directly and otherwise in the growth of the apathy that impacted his fortunes in the last election. Not every NPP member needs to be close with the Flagbearer, especially the Gabbys of the party.

They had their time and did what they did with it. Time to take a backseat or no seat at all and allow the Flagbearer to steer the party in the new and promising direction he’s on. From the republic of Gambaga, I say we watch, and we judge,” he said.

In related news, Gabby Otchere-Darko has said the NPP is in his blood.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, his grandfather was JB Danquah, adding that he was also born into the NPP tradition.

He further highlighted that although he may not be active, he still loves the NPP.

Speaking in an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV, Gabby Otchere-Darko was asked whether he is still a member of the NPP. He responded, he responded saying, “ You know what I call myself, I think the NPP is in my blood, my grandfather was JB Danquah, I was born into the tradition, so I have nowhere to go, and I love being where I am.

I may not be active, which I’m not, but of course I am NPP”.

Meanwhile, Alamzy Billa Nikyema, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, has claimed the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) and it Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia cannot even win an SRC election.

According to Alamzy Billa Nikyema, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the current NPP lack the political strength needed to win public support, doubting the party’s ability to regain political power in the future.

The NDC MP stressed that NPP members still confidently speak about winning the 2028 general elections when the party is struggling to maintain credibility among Ghanaians.

Alamzy Billa Nikyema stressed that the NPP failed Ghanaians in government, which left public dissatisfaction with the party, adding that the NPP will face challenges in convincing voters at the grassroots.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Alamzy Billa Nikyema stated, “These people failed us with audacity, they failed us with audacity, and the most bizarre part is that any time they are making contributions, they will tell us that when we win power in 2028. Mr Speaker, my question is with which party and with which candidate?

“Mr Speaker, your current party, and your current candidate, you cannot even use the party and your current candidate to win SRC elections,” Mr Nikyema said.
