A woman has allegedly shot and killed a taxi driver at Tetegu overhead on the Accra-Kasoa highway in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality.
Reports suggest the taxi driver was shot on Monday Janurary 19, 2026, around 11:16 p.m.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident may be linked to a robbery attempt.
Eyewitnesses suggest the incident ensued following an argument in which the woman threatened and later fired two shots to the rib area and shoulder of the driver.
Reports suggest the woman, after murdering the taxi driver, attempted to flee the scene but was hit by another vehicle and was arrested by a police patrol team.
In a viral video shared on X, the woman was seen being taken away by the police. The video also showed the lifeless body of the taxi driver still in his car.
In a post sharing the video on the incident on the social media platform X, EDHUB stated, “A taxi driver was shot and killed at Tetegu Overhead at about 11:16 p.m. last night, in an incident eyewitnesses believe may have been linked to a robbery attempt. Witnesses said an argument allegedly broke out inside the vehicle, during which a woman threatened to shoot the driver before allegedly firing two shots, hitting him in the rib area and the shoulder.
The suspect later attempted to flee but was struck by a passing vehicle. She was subsequently arrested by a police patrol team that had been alerted to the incident and was quickly removed from the scene to prevent a possible mob attack”.
Meanwhile, some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic news wrote, “This is absolutely heartbreaking and tragic. How on earth did she manage to obtain a firearm? Our security and intelligence agencies urgently need to strengthen their efforts to prevent such incidents and truly safeguard our communities”.
A netizen added, “People need to be taught the psychology behind handling a gun. The fact that you own one doesn’t mean you are always right to use it. Possessing a gun can make you think you need to show ‘action’ at the least provocation, which will easily make you act irrational”.
Another X user stated, “Somebody who is this wicked shouldn’t be protected by the law. The police should have delayed because the mob would teach her a lesson”
Additionally, one more netizen stated, “I don’t know what went on there, but all I know is, thieves disguised themselves as taxi drivers on that stretch. My mom was a victim of that”.
“I will keep saying this, the rate at which civilians have access to firearms in the country is becoming alarming. Security services, CID, and Ghana Police should take a serious look at it or we will all face the consequences sooner than later”, one more X user added.
One last Ghanaian added, “Hmmmmmmm, there is a saying everyone is capable of doing something or anything oo so Be careful of human beings.. woman hmm the world is changing ooo”.
