“That man nearly ruined my education because he couldn’t keep zip closed – NDC’s Amelia on Prof Gyampo sex-for-grade

News“That man nearly ruined my education because he couldn’t keep zip closed - NDC’s Amelia on Prof Gyampo sex-for-grade

Staunch feminist, Amelia Amedela Amemate, popularly known as Dela Goldheart, has said Professor Ransford Gyampo nearly ruined his education.

According to NDC’s Amelia, Professor Ransford Gyampo nearly ruined her education because he couldn’t keep his zipper closed.

It will be recalled that some years ago, Amelia Amedela Amemate added her voice to that of several other women calling for the head of Professor Ransford Gyampo following the BBC Africa Eye exposé ‘Sex for grades’.

Dela Goldheart narrated her ordeal of how Prof Gyampo allegedly harassed her while she was a student at the University of Ghana.

According to her, she was shocked at Prof Gyampo’s consistent demand for sex, knowing how reserved and powerful he was; adding that many of her colleagues saw him to be “young, smart and powerful”.

In a fresh Facebook post that has surfaced following Professor Ransford Gyampo, in a viral video, in a heated altercation with Dr George Domfeh, two lecturers at the University of Ghana.

In a viral video circulating on Facebook, Dr Domfeh was heard making further allegations against Prof Gyampo, including claims about inappropriate conduct with students.

“You are a fool. You are a professor who sleeps with children,” Domfeh alleged.

Amelia Amedela rehashed her experience with Prof Gyampo and how she was disappointed with the NDC appointing him to government. She wrote, “This has been making waves since yesterday, especially in NDC and NPP WhatsApp groups and the like. Look, I have no interest in helping the NPP with its propaganda. I also have no interest in shielding a man who nearly ruined my education simply because he could not keep his zip closed.

Gyampo was caught in 2019 doing what he had done to me from 2010 to 2014. I spoke about it publicly in 2019, when the BBC exposé aired, and he denied the allegations. I also submitted my evidence to the University of Ghana committee that sat on the case. Sadly, he was suspended for only six months. Although I could not understand why the university did not permanently prevent him from interacting with young people moving forward, I understood that the fight against sexual harassment in our schools was far from being won”.

Amelia Amedela Amemate further expressed her disappointment with the NDC in appointing Prof Gyampo to government despite sexual harassment levelled against him.

She added, “Then the NDC, the same party I belong to, appointed Gyampo to a government office upon resuming power. I was disappointed. Because what did that say to those of us who suffered at his hands? What message did that appointment send to young women all over Ghana? Could they trust the party? Would their voices even matter?

A blogger decided to share this because this is what bloggers do–they misrepresent facts and distort timelines. I said everything I needed to say before the fight between this man and his lecturer colleague happened. My account was not even active when it occurred. So to suggest that I am now sharing my horrible experience at the hands of this man to support NPP propaganda is another trap you are hoping to set”.
