Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the member of parliament for Bolgatanga East and Attorney General, has made a shocking revelation about parliament.
According to Dr Dominic Ayine, the quality of representation in parliament is not like it used to be in the past.
Dr Ayine, speaking to Bola Ray on StarrChat, stated, “The quality of representation in parliament has dropped”.
Some netizens reacting to the news card shared by GHOne TV stated, “We all know that the majority of the NDC MPs are below par, nothing is coming out of them, they are just empty barrels. Their people voted for the umbrella and don’t care who represents them. That Pusiga MP, Kwame A-plus and others don’t qualify to be mp in any serious country. Nwura”.
“Our politics and parliament aren’t exactly independent, you know? When one party has too much power, it can hold Ghana back. We need to be smart when voting, put country above party, and choose leaders who’ll actually deliver growth, not just play politics. NPP, NDC not helping”, one X user added.
A netizen added, “Exactly…incompetent people like Aplus, Pusiga MP,Sunyani West MP,Ayariga, Sam George, Ashaiman MP, Ada MP,Collins Dauda,Dr Apaak etc are all in the house”.
“What do you expect if idiots like Afenyo Markin, Ahmed Jerry, annor dompreh etc are in that house?”, another X user added.
In related news, the Attorney General cried out that there are times he thought of resigning as a member of parliament.
According to him, the chaotic environment in parliament has led him to have thoughts of resignation crossing his mind.
He recounted the scenes of MPs smashing tables and hurling catcalls as deeply embarrassing and counterproductive.
Speaking during an interview on Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio, Dr Dominic Ayine stated, “To be honest with you, there are times I think of resigning and just getting out of the place. It is that bad. I feel extremely uncomfortable when we are banging tables and engaging in catcalls. I deplore that kind of disruptive behaviour. It is highly unbecoming”.
“If some of my colleagues are listening to me, I think they should stop it. We should try to resolve our differences in Parliament through debate and persuasion, rather than through rancorous conduct,” he added.
Meanwhile, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has clarified that the heated exchanges witnessed in Parliament.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the heated exchanges should not be mistaken for anger but rather are a way the MPs express their disagreements as part of democratic process.
Speaking in a video shared by GraphicOnline on X on Thursday, January 1, 2026, he explained, “Don’t think that we are fighting. It is only our way of expressing disagreement. We are not at war in Parliament; we are only expressing our disagreements”.
“That’s why when there’s chaos, you see calmness the next day in Parliament. So, if you go and fight, you are fighting your own trouble, so don’t fight,” he emphasised.
