Kennedy Agyapong, an NPP presidential candidate hopeful, has levelled some allegations against the government and the Ghana Armed Forces in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
He explained that the sad part of the El-Wak tragedy yesterday was that GAF had already selected their recruits and the recruitment exercise was just a façade.
According to Kennedy Agyapong, applicants who are seen standing in the scorching sun will be rejected as the government and GAF have already selected persons for the recruitment through other channels.
Speaking to some NPP delegates during his campaign, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “The sad part in all this is that the young person who died, they have already selected persons for the recruitment. This is the truth I have been speaking about: that you miss me, but you are the same people who say I should be quiet.
This is the truth: the politicians think they are more sensible than everyone. I have been there before. I am telling you, after they have recruited their own person, they will now announce recruitment for young people to go and stand in the sun, after all that, you will not be recruited. They have already selected persons for the recruitment”.
Kennedy Agyapong further made a bold declaration, “If you like, vote for if you like don’t, for the sake of the country anybody I will appoint anybody who will sell an appointment; I will arrest that person”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to Ken Agyapong’s comments stated, “The cheap politics is becoming too much, people are always waiting for a tragedy to happen so they can use it for political advantage. Both NPP and NDC have been using this procedure for decades; this is not new. People even die during training. we shouldn’t make this look like a political agenda, but rather find solutions to prevent future incidents like this”.
“This man sometimes talks as if he is not a politician…He has been part of this corrupt and inefficient system in this Country. Suddenly, you have become an angel”, another netizen added.
Another X user added, “Oh yes. Even in 2021, when his party was in power, that was exactly what they did to us. They made us line up in the scorching sun, and we never got recruited. Later on, we heard recruitment for sale.
Those who will be recruited are at home relaxing and having a good time while watching others struggle, but they will never be recruited. The sad truth”.
“They think all the parties are the same. Some things, some do it differently, at least we can see from this government, the past 8 years, did you see any government jobs being advertised? How many people have people paid money to be picked? He’s speaking from his time, not from what’s happening…!!!!”, one more X user claimed.
His comments follow: The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed six people have died in the ongoing military recruitment at the El-Wak Stadium.
Reports suggest the chaos occurred around 6:20 a.m. when applicants breached security protocols.
According to GAF, 28 people were taken to the 37 Military Hospital.
They further revealed that six people have died, with five in the ICU and another 12 in critical condition.
Also, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has donated GH¢100,000 to support the medical treatment of victims injured in the El-Wak Sports Stadium stampede.
Speaker Bagbin, accompanied by the leadership of Parliament, visited the victims at the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday.
He commiserates with the injured and their families.
