A worried Ghanaian Man has expressed frustration over soaring domestic flight prices, revealing he paid a total of GHS 5,600.
According to the Man, he paid GHS 2,900 for Accra to Kumasi and GHS 2,700 for Kumasi to Accra, claiming that in late 2024, he only paid GHS 1,500.
Speaking in a viral video shared on X, the GH man stated, “So, I’m at the Prempeh II International Airport, and I have to pay 2,700 Ghana cedis to travel from Kumasi to Accra on Saturday.
I came to Kumasi just last Saturday. On my way coming, I paid 2,900 Ghana cedis from Accra to Kumasi. So when you put them together, that is 5,600 Ghana cedis”.
He added, “Like that’s in and out of my trip from Kumasi to Accra. This does not make sense. And when you talk about it, they say fuel prices have come down, the dollar is down, so we should not complain about anything that’s happening”.
The GH further vented his anger saying, “Obiaa se ey3 aban papapa. How is aban papapa in this? In late 2024 to early 2025, the highest one could pay was 1,500 Ghana cedis. That’s like the highest one could pay late 2024, early ’25, the highest one could pay was 1,500 Ghana cedis. Today, poor Trotro drivers have been forced to reduce their prices.
DSTV has been asked to reduce the price, but aviation the cost of aviation or travel by air is very, very expensive. It is… I don’t know.”
Some netizens reacting to his claims stated, “First of all, he should be factual and objective. He can’t book a flight the same day or a day before he travels and expect cheap rates like he is going to board a VIP or Trotro. If you frequently travel by Air no one will tell you to use common sense by booking ahead of time. Below is an image of actual prices”.
“Is it a lack of understanding, or something people just want attention?
If you sit down and book a flight overnight, you will pay more.
This is simply the case. However, if you plan your trip out and book in advance, it is cheaper”, a netizen added.
“Flight prices depend heavily on traffic. More of the more the demand, the higher the price. Someone tag him for me”, another X user added.
One more X user added, “This is wild, GHS 5,600 round trip for Accra–Kumasi in 2026 feels like highway robbery when it used to be way cheaper just a couple years back. With only two main airlines dominating and no real competition, prices just keep climbing despite any fuel or cedi improvements. Ghana really needs more carriers in the sky to bring some sanity to these fares”.
“I decided to skip, but his letter sounded political, so I had to pull up. This was just 31st January”, one more Ghanaian added, sharing a photo of his flight ticket price of GHS1,696 and GHS1,238.
