Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on all party members to put aside differences and work together to win the 2028 elections.
Speaking after being officially declared the NPP flagbearer, Dr Bawumia stressed that the outcome of the election should mark the beginning of cooperation among party members.
He further appealed to delegates and supporters across the country to let go of any reservations they may have and unite behind the party’s vision.
Dr Bawumia stated, “Together we stand, divided we fall.”
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, has been elected the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once again.
Also, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Dr Bawumia to lead with clarity and purpose.
Akufo-Addo acknowledged Dr Bawumia’s character and commitment to party ideals.
He stated, “I know his mind, and I know his character. He is loyal to party principles,” Akufo-Addo said, urging the former Vice President to offer focused leadership in the period ahead”.
Furthermore, Ken Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, has accepted the results of the party’s presidential primary, calling for all supporters to back Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Ken Agyapong, he pledges his support and has accepted the results declared by the EC.
He further called on his supporters to stay calm, respect the results as they work to win the 2028 election.
Speaking after the declaration of results by the Electoral Commission at the party headquarters in Accra on Saturday, January 31, Ken Agyapong stated, “I stand before you to pledge my support and also to accept the results declared by the EC. The delegates have spoken, and I want to plead with my supporters that they should stay
calm and respect the results and help all of us to work together to win the 2028 elections”.
“I want to thank my supporters and advise you that in an election, you can win and lose. So if you lose, you need to accept it in good faith,” he added.
“So let’s all of us throw our support to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer, and all I say is NPP we need unity in the party, but unity comes with respect. we have to respect each other’s views,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the former Vice President secured a commanding victory in the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday Janurary 31, 2026.
Dr Bawumia is now set to lead the NPP in the 2028 election as they seek to regain power from the NDC.
Dr Bawumia polled 110,645, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast, which was confirmed by Electoral Commission officials at the party’s headquarters.
Ken Agyapong came in second place with 46, 554 votes (23.76%), while Dr Bryan Acheampong secured third position with 36,303 votes (18.53%).
They were followed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes (1.02%) and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth with 402 votes, representing 0.21%.
