Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minority Spokesperson on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, has refuted claims of potential change in parliamentary leadership within the Minority Caucus.

According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the rumours of a potential reshuffle in the caucus’s leadership are totally unnecessary.

He detailed that the NPP minority are not having any conversations about a change of leadership and is only focused on holding the government to account on its promises.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on February 22, 2026, Oppong Nkrumah brushed off the rumours saying, “I have heard this, but I think it’s totally unnecessary. As a caucus, we are not having any conversations about a change of leadership, and I think it is totally unnecessary.

“We are focused, united, and working together to hold the government to account on its promises,” he added.

Additionally, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the NPP General Secretary, has declared that the party is very impressed with the work of Alexander Afenyo-Markin and the Minority leadership.

The NPP General Secretary dismissed claims that the NPP plans to replace Afenyo-Markin as minority leader.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Friday, February 13, 2025, Justin Kodua stated, “It is something that has not come to the table, and I don’t see why, at this point, the party would want to change leadership in Parliament. For what reason? So, it is something that has not come to the table.”

“The party is overwhelmingly satisfied. We know the work that the mighty Minority, under the leadership of Afenyo-Markin, has been doing, and, certainly, we will continue to give them all the needed support to enable them to continue to perform their job. We are very impressed and very elated about the work that they are doing,” he stressed.

Justin Kodua further added that the NPP continues on its current reorganisation path, adding that he is convinced the party will return to power in 2028.

“If, as a party, we are able to continue the reorganisation that we are undertaking, I am very convinced that in 2028 we shall come back to power. All that Ghanaians are expecting from us is to prove and show them that, yes, we mean business, and we have taken our reorganisation seriously,” he boldly added.

Also, Gabby Otchere-Darko, a legal practitioner and stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has broken his silence on alleged calls to remove the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, from his position as Minority Leader in Parliament.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, he has not heard of any calls for the removal of Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader.

Gabby Otchere-Darko highlighted that the NPP Minority in Parliament has been strong in Parliament over the last 12 months, adding that Afenyo-Markin’s recent visit to NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, shows they can work together.

Speaking in an interview on Asaasepa on February 3, 2026, Gabby explained, “I haven’t heard calls that they should remove Afenyo-Markin, but I think the Minority has done well. They have held this party together for the past twelve months.

“I also saw footage of him with the presidential candidate, and I am confident the party, in its wisdom, will remain stable,” he added.
