The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly plotting to assassinate a chief at Akyem Kwabeng in the Eastern Region.

The two suspects have been identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth.

They were apprehended in an intelligence-led operation after police uncovered a plan to eliminate the chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar slated for October 17, 2025.

According to the Police, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GHC 50,000 to undercover officers to carry out the killing of the chief and another woman said to be in line for installation as Queen Mother.

Emelia Akua Asor also instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to help identify the victims’ residences.

Seth reportedly led the officers to the homes of the intended victims and provided a photograph of the chief to aid the plot.

The suspects allegedly promised an additional GHC 50,000 upon completion of the crime.

Both suspects are currently in police custody, assisting investigations and will be arraigned before the court.

The Eastern South Police Regional command wrote, “The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly plotting to assassinate a Chief in the Eastern Region.

The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were arrested following an intelligence-led operation. Their arrests followed the uncovering of a plan to eliminate the Chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar scheduled for 17th October 2025 at Akyem Kwabeng”.

The statement further detailed, “Acting on intelligence received on 11th October 2025, a police intelligence team infiltrated the suspects’ network. During the operation, suspect Emelia Akua Asor offered GHC 50,000.00 to undercover officers to kill the Chief and another woman, alleged to be lined up for installation as Queen Mother. She further instructed suspect Butuakwa Seth to assist in identifying the residences of the intended victims.

Suspect Butuakwa Seth led the officers to the homes of the Chief and the woman and provided a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the planned act. The suspects also promised an additional GHC 50,000.00 upon completion of the crime”.

The police statement added that both suspects are in custody, assisting investigations.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command also assured the public that it remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, especially traditional leaders in the region.

In related news, the  Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the suspect who assaulted one of their Officer at Garu in the Upper East Region.

According to reports, the Police officer was assaulted on 6th October 2025 when the officer and Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were conducting stop-and-search operations along the Garu–Nakpanduri road.

The Police intercepted a tricycle loaded with sacks of groundnuts with some passengers sitting on top.

The Ghana Police statement read, “The Upper East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into an incident in which a police officer was assaulted by a commercial tricycle rider at Garu in the Upper East Region.

The incident occurred on 6th October 2025, when the officer and Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) were conducting stop-and-search operations along the Garu-Nakpanduri road”.

The statement added, “The team intercepted a tricycle loaded with sacks of groundnuts and passengers sitting on top. When the officer instructed the rider to stop and park properly for inspection, he became aggressive and attacked the officer. The suspect then fled the scene on his tricycle.

Efforts are underway to arrest the tricycle rider and ensure he faces the full rigours of the law”.
