A staff member of the U.S. Embassy in Ghana was pickpocketed during Shatta Wale’s ShattaFest at Independence Square.

The US man was left stranded after being pickpocketed of GHS8,000, his iPhone 16, and his credit cards.

He stated that although he anticipated the event would be busy, he did not expect it to be so aggressive as to lose his valuables.

He further vowed to get the picpokerters busted.

Speaking during an interview, the U.S. Embassy worker stated, “I know it was going to be busy, but I didn’t know it was going to be aggressive, where I would get tackled and people would take my money out of my pocket. They took my phone, they took 8000 cedis in cash, and they took all my credit cards.

He further added, they started pushing and knocked my girl down, I am from the US. I work at the embassy, so I will be reporting this to the security on Monday. I am not going to bulshit around whoever took it is going to be busted”.

Meanwhile, the ShattaFest 2025 was a night to celebrate Ghanaian Dancehall icon Shatta Wale as he marked his 41st birthday on October 18, 2025.

Fans from various parts of Ghana crowded the Independence Square in Accra on October 18, 2025, to spend the night with the artiste as he and various other Ghanaian musicians treated the audience to hit songs.

A star-studded lineup, including Sarkodie, Samini, Wendy Shay, Medikal, Kelvynboy, Amerado, DarkoVibes, Tinny, JZyNo, Kwame Yogot, and DopeNation, among several others, featured during the ShattaFest.

Additionally,  Shatta Wale’s Public Relations Officer, Sammy Flex, has clarified that no equipment was stolen.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on October 20, 2025, Sammy Flex stated, “The numbers were crazy, especially around the stage, and everybody was struggling for space. I think out of that struggle, they pulled out the cords or wires from the monitors.

So, at a point, most of the monitors went off because there were no cables connected to them. I’m sure when it started getting that serious, the sound engineers and technicians tried to mobilise and reorganize all the monitors on the stage”.

He added, “That’s why the MC was talking about it, because we wanted to continue the show after that small hold-up. We were trying to bring everything back, but even at that point, it was very tough.

The crowd wouldn’t listen or move back. We even thought that the hold-up would reduce the numbers, but it didn’t change anything. So we had no option but to continue with the performance,” he explained.
