King Charles III, the King of the United Kingdom, has ignited a debate on social media after labelling Nigerian jollof as the best.

In a video shared on X on March 18, 2026, King Charles III weighed in on the long-standing debate over which country makes the best jollof.

According to King Charles, he once hosted a jollof-and-tea party at St James’s Palace, where he had the opportunity to eat some Nigerian jollof.

King Charles further labelled Nigerian jollof as the best.

Speaking in a video shared on X by Sky News, as he welcomes Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu at Windsor Castle for his two-day state visit, King Charles III stated, “We in the United Kingdom are blessed with so many people of Nigerian heritage…

Last year, I was delighted to host a jollof-and-tea party at St James’s Palace. I was firmly assured that the jollof was the best, Nigerian, of course”.

King Charles video has since ignited debate on social media, with netizens saying, “Those in Ghana, you heard it from the King’s mouth. No more arguments on who’s got the best jollof in the world”.

“I think this visit should be extended to a month. I’ve rarely seen the President and the Nigerian presidential media this visibly happy and excited, even as insurgency continues to tear at the fabric of the country”, a netizen added.

A netizen added, “Nothing beats authentic Nigerian jollof King Charles clearly knows quality when he tastes it. Diplomacy and great food go hand in hand, and this was a perfect welcome”.

Another X user added, “This jollof and tea fanfare at the palace is fun and all, but let’s be real, it’s also a massive distraction from the real issues Nigerians are facing. Celebrating cuisine and culture for state visit photos is nice, but it doesn’t solve insecurity, poverty, or the economic hardships people deal with daily. Diplomacy should include substance, not just fancy meals and smiles for the cameras”.

“King Charles just ended the Jollof war with one sentence, and Ghanaians are somewhere crying into their party jollof right now 🇳🇬🔥

Even the crown knows Naija owns the recipe. No cap, no contest.

Ghana, Senegal, Liberia… y’all can have the silver, bronze & participation trophy”, one more X user added.

Additionally, a last netizen added, “It’s inspiring to see King Charles III appreciating something as iconic as Nigerian jollof rice; it shows how powerful culture can be in building connections between nations. Food has a way of breaking barriers, and jollof is truly one of Nigeria’s finest ambassadors”.
