Business magnate, Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has been seen in a viral video shovelling and pushing loads of salt alongside some of his workers at his salt mining site.
In the viral video shared on X, McDan was spotted along with some of his workers as he shovels the salt on a local truck carrier, and he later pushes the truck with the help of his workers.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the video stated, “The people of Ada say otherwise, this man has been a headache to the people of Ada”.
“True leadership! From street hustle to Africa’s biggest salt empire and still grinding with the team.
McDan shows what real African entrepreneurship looks like. Respect,” a netizen added.
“I go some funeral for sege. This name has an entire mining(salt) operation going on right before the beach front.
I also learnt from the fishermen that he owns the entire stretch of the beach. Chale this man den ein people never go go broke”, a netizen added.
“Smart man, keep this up, and Ghanaians will hail you as one of us. Even if you steal from us, we’ll still end up praising you. He should also do more charity work and get bloggers to hype it up”, a netizen added.
“People died because of this wicked person’s greed… Today we should hail him cos he’s shovelling the same salt that we the bone of contention when the people died. CDR Africa is a very useless organisation”, a netizen added.
A netizen added“There has always been something off about that dude…but can’t blame him, that’s business, got to be ruthless. But this man…is greedy and corrupt asf. Took advantage of Akini-Addo & politics to reap the people of Ada off their livelihood, intimidated them with state security…”
Meanwhile, McDan’s owns the biggest African salt mine with its salt mining sitting on 41,000 acres of land at Ada, in the Dangme East district of Ghana.
Reports suggest the salt mining sites can generate up to $6 billion in revenue.
Speaking in an interview with YouTuber Wode Maya, McDan stated, “The whole place looked like a football field, people were destroying the land with their galamsey salt mining activities. The land was not properly tilted”.
“You need courage to do this. I drove past this land sometime ago. This is a place where for over 55 years, anybody who tried failed. Nobody could come here and succeed. In the beginning, I asked myself whether I was doing the right thing or I was being stupid.
“It hasn’t been an easy journey, if you don’t have the guts and what it takes, you will stop by the way,” he told Wode Maya in an interview.
McDan added, “99% of people will say you are wrong. It’s either you are making a mistake or you’re making history. We haven’t reached anywhere yet, but I believe we have come too far to be making mistakes.”
“We’re living in a country where some of us had to be pacesetters and also dare. We cannot always look at foreigners and the outside world that they can do what we cannot do. In my policy, I can. I also have some good people around me who read my vision and said they would go with me”, McDan added.
