Haruna Mohammed, the member of parliament for Asunafo North, has gone down on his knees praising President John Mahama for the swift commencement of a major road project in his constituency.
The lawmaker in a viral video asserted that the Goaso and Tepa road project was just awarded in three months under the Mahama government’s big push initiative, but the contractors are already asphalting the road.
Haruna Mohammed boldly highlighted that the Goaso and Tepa road was the main reason the people of Ahafo voted against the NPP government.
Speaking in the viral video during the ongoing works on the Goaso and Tepa road, Haruna Mohammed stated, “God bless Mahama, God should make him bigger.
I am so happy that even my white shirt I will roll on the floor with it to thank President Mahama and the NDC”.
This road, in particular, is the reason why the people of Ahafo voted against the NPP. This contract was awarded just three months ago”.
Still on the Big Push, President Mahama has made a bold declaration that Ghana will have the best roads in West Africa within the next 24 months under the Big Push Initiative.
According to John Mahama, his government is dedicated to constructing more roads over the next two years, with the aim of making transportation safer and more efficient.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony of the 195-kilometre Wenchi–Bole–Sawla–Wa Road, President Mahama stated, “I wish to repeat my apology and regret to the people of Ghana that with the start of the big push, the whole of Ghana is going to be a construction site for the next two years.
Wherever in this county you go, the road will be under construction, so I ask the Ghanaians to be patient with us and to accept the inconvenience.
Twenty-four months after the launch of the Big Push, you will have the best roads in West Africa”.
He further added, “For the past few years, this strategic artery has been allowed to deteriorate. Potholes, failed pavements, and broken drains have made travel difficult and hazardous.
Vehicle operating costs have risen by nearly 40%, and travel time between Wenchi, Sawla, and Wa can take up to eight hours. Because of the slow pace of movement, armed robberies have also become common. This is unacceptable in modern Ghana.”
Meanwhile, the Association of Road Contractors has praised the Mahama administration for clearing part of the arrears owed to road contractors.
John Afful, the former Chairman of the Association, stated, “The initial assurance was that some funds would be released to reduce the debt, and we have seen progress. The Minister of Roads has indicated that over GH¢5 has been paid into outstanding projects, with contractors encouraged to return to site. This is very welcoming, and we are already seeing some contractors resume work,” he said.
“At least something is being done, and if this continues, we will be grateful because the arrears will keep reducing,” he added.
